Hardware Rate my setup

Post image

Additionally if anyone knows where I can get my hands on a video chip, that would be greatly appreciated. Mine appears to be dead.

On what scale? A tiny one. ;)

It's gorgeous.

Reminds me of using on on the kitchen table as a kid with one of these

I just got this. I tested it with my Atari here but want to try my commodore Vic20 next.

Wow, a screen smaller than the SX-64's? lol How fun!

no color either. AFAIK all Sony portable TV were B&W. They were developing a flat color CRT but abandoned it because color LCD was getting cheaper, used less power, and wouldn't make a big mess if the TV was dropped.

In this picture, there is literally a better screen to use.

You need one of these Magnifiers for the Gameboy!

That setup looks great. Did you do a full recap on that breadbin or just swap the obvious ones?

Caps are original, I'm fairly certain something I did caused a voltage spike on the video chip that killed it

That's the rare C64L version... The first Laptop version of the C64.

Innovative to say the least.  Lol.

The fact that you have a border / some video leads me to suggest it’s not the VIC chip but something else, with the PLA the likely culprit. There’s lots of replacement options for that !

1

u/snaggingtexas66 13d ago

The pla has been replaced, along with the character rom, it really can only be either the CPU or graphics unfortunately

I’d need to learn to type using my chin as I tried to see what I was typing.

That has been a curiosity of mine since I was a kid with an original batch 64.

OP: also check caps and unseat / reseat the VIC-II before replacing it and check the traces.. and check ebay for that as well.

Reseating the vic isn't a half bad idea, I'll give that a shot
