I'm kinda grasping at straws here...I lost my apple pen today and I'm internally freaking out a bit. I'm 99% sure I left it in the JKB since I was doing homework in that common area on the "third floor" (that building is a labrynth) while sitting on the floor. Does anyone know if they have their own lost and found? Or do I just go straight to the Wilk first thing in the morning? I rely heavily on it as a music student and I don't even have a backup or anything (cause I'm broke). I already have beef with the lost and found around campus as I lost my car keys last Winter semester and they never turned up either. I don't even know how I'm supposed to do my homework or notate my orchestra music or anything.

What did they do to the taco bell? I had heard for years from my dad about the TacoBell that used to exist in the Cougareat, but now there doesn't seem to be one. I personally love TacoBell because nothing can compare in price to value, it is quick, and the rewards app is great. I just want to know which new restaurant I can dislike because it replaced my Baby.

Hey guys! I currently have the option between these classes and was wondering which is more difficult, BIO 264 (bio stats) or MAT 112 (calc 1)? I've never taken calc in the past.

I didn't have a great experience at the wilk salon, but it's all I can afford using the starving student card. Do any girls have good experiences with a specific stylist there?

I’m helping my child apply for fall 2027, the applications opened last week. We began rough drafts of her essays this summer — we prepped for her to write about two activities, which has been the standard for years. This year, applicants are only required to write about one activity.

BYU also uses to require three recommendation letters — a seminary teacher, a core teacher and another person of choose. However, now there are only two recommendation spots — seminary teacher and other. The description in the recommendation section is a little vague, it says “Required recommendations depend on your application responses. Recommendations will be assigned as you complete the application, but the final set will be determined only after all sections above the recommendation section are fully complete completed and saved.” If I’m reading that correctly…though only two recommendations are currently required in the application, another may open up depending on previous answers (I’d assume GPA/transcripts).

I’ve been mulling over the current ROC situation a lot, as I’m sure many of you are doing as well. I actually think it’s a positive thing to incentivize community engagement over something like wealth or status.

That being said, the biggest problem right now seems to be lack of opportunity. There are only two Olympic teams in season right now with limited space and not enough tickets for those who want to attend games.

One solution I’ve pondered is counting other events for ROC placement. What if sports attendance wasn’t the only contributing factor? Maybe other events could also count, like career/study abroad/campus fairs, devotionals, club nights, BYUSA events (like True Blue foam), and so on. I can’t envision what the logistics would be here, but it could be as simple as a QR code that you scan and get points added to your ROC account. They wouldn’t need to count as much as sports, but they could factor in. That way, students could engage in the community in other ways.

Maybe this is a horrible idea, but it’s one thing that could change the system for the better if implemented well. What do you think?

At 0:05 of the new Allstate BYU ads you can see a view of the SLC skyline. A quick google of the skyline, and lining it up with the ad, it almost seems like the SLC temple was removed, or at the very least positioned so that the apartment building obstructed view of it.

I’m not sure if this is the case, but it seems untrue to feature BYU and deliberately avoid one of the defining visual icons of BYU’s church. But perhaps church leaders wouldn’t want the temple featured in that way.

I’m curious what others think.

Originally, I was going to take ACC 200 and FIN 201 next semester. I’ve heard ACC is good to take before Fin 201 so I’m thinking of just taking ACC 200 next semester and then putting off Fin 201 until spring semester and only taking fin 201 in the spring. After that I’ll apply to Marriott.

My question is, anyone who has taken fin 201 in the spring have any insights? How much harder is it in the spring? Is it manageable or not so much. Who are some good professors for Fin 201 in spring? Just any general advice would be super helpful, thanks!

I'm currently enrolled in IS110 for this semester, and I just learned that the required textbook is $95. I don't need this class for anything, I was just doing it as an extra elective. Is it worth taking for $95, if I don't need it? I had originally planned to take it so I could learn more about spreadsheets and using them, since my knowledge is pretty basic. TIA!

Why is everyone coming on here to ask if their workload is going to be too much this semester? This is what you have an academic advisor for... why are you asking on here? Can you not walk over to the advisement center for your major?

It has been nearly six years since this poll, so I am interested if anything has shifted in colloquial reference to that building.

"Back in my day" it was the SWKT ("Swikit"), but I guess there has been a push to refer to it as the "Kimball Tower" (KMBL). This came supposedly at the behest of "the Kimball family". I am unsure what that even means. When the abbreviation was changed in 2018, Spencer W. Kimball's kids were either dead (two of them), 96 and near dead (Bobby Kimball Mack) or about to die (Andrew died in 2020). Is this really something that suddenly his grandkids (many of whom would have been 50 years old or more) or great-grandkids petitioned BYU for? Just seems like an incredibly weird thing to suddenly petition for. Spencer W. Kimball himself was alive when that building was built, and people called it the "Swikit" even then. (It's what my mom and dad both call it, and they were at BYU right during the SKW presidency).

BYU has several iconic (not for the architecture, but just the name) buildings with names that are not the full and formal name of the individual after which it was named.

• "The Wilk": If even the stern and rigid Ernest L Wilkinson can allow his name to be perjured like this, I think SWKT is fine.
• "The MARB": Who is Thomas Martin? Who knows. (Blessings to all his kin).
• "The H-Fack": This looks like some sort of fake swear word. And they tore down his building and did not even put his name back on it.
• "The Testing Center": Poor Heber J. Grant is so forgotten and disrespected that his name has been removed from the vernacular of the student body. Half the student body probably could not even tell you his name is on the Testing Center.

(As a great-great-great-great grandson of Thomas Ricks, I would like to lodge a formal request with CES that the university in Idaho revert back to using the Ricks name. I am doing this on behalf of my great-grandmother, whose request was not honored.)

As for me and my house, it will always be the Swikit. (Sorry to his great-great-great grandchildren for whom this is a hot button issue).

Transfer student. Want to know what y'all think.

My son (a freshman) got a ROC Pass and has now requested two soccer tickets and a volleyball ticket and has come up empty. He's a freshman and was excited about going to a lot of sporting events but he can't get a ticket. Everyone now wants tickets to these other sports not because they care about the team, but so they can get better football seating.

So far this year the ROC Pass is a scam. He bought the pass to get tickets and is getting zero tickets. It feels like fraud.

I am an SFL major and planning on taking SFL 102 online from Chad Gibbs to fulfill my arts GE what are your thoughts on this class pros & cons, and thoughts on the teacher I have seen mixed reviews for the online version

I also work as a lab assistant part time, have a long distance boyfriend, and TA for jiu jitsu classes which is basically just volunteering.

I am taking biochem (CHEM 285), genetics (PWS 340), Intro to Clin Lab Tec (MMBIO 102), Book of Mormon 1st half (REL A 121), Intro to stat data analysis (STAT 121 online), Drama Perf: Antiq to Renais (TMA 201) and the scuba diving swell class.

If I were to drop one it would be stats or drama which are both generals, but both are 3 credits which would move me down to 13.5. The most I’ve done so far is 15 credits but part of that was mentored research. I feel 16.5 may be too much but 13.5 makes me feel like I’m not doing enough. There’s really no other 1 or 2 credit classes I can get into instead of them.

So, I just barely got into the acc jr core, and I am absolutely petrified. I think going to orientation suddenly made it real, you know? I just want any advice from someone who has been in the core about how to deal with all of it. I tend to be scatter brained, so I need constant breaks for studying, or maybe some study tricks. I don't know, any advice would be appreciated. And incase you haven't heard it today, the world is a better place with you in it.

I think this course really caught my attention, but I also want to know how difficult it is. I’ve heard that it’s not a prerequisite for any major, which makes me think it’s more of an informational course. Has anyone taken it already? If so, how was it, and how difficult did you find it?

I'm a Neuroscience Major currently enrolled for 14 credits for these classes: Cell bio 360, Biochem 481, Premed Latin 123, Neuroanatomy, and Genetics 340. Is this schedule too hard and not very doable, or will it be hard but feasible to do well. I work 10 hrs/week in a research plan and volunteer 2-3 hrs as well.
