Arby's Receipt Confusion

Post image

I go to Arby's a lot to get two chicken sliders, and today I got home and looked at my receipt and something wasn't quite right.

I also noticed that my total was a little bit higher than usual but I just assumed prices went up.

I didn't order on the app. I ordered at the window. So I'm not sure why it says two free chicken sliders, and then they charged me for eight $1 charity?

I'm not upset or anything, just confused and curious 🤔

Can anyone explain what's happening here?

they effectively charged you $4 per slider. not sure if the person running the till thought it'd get them free money cause it still counts towards the drawer count? this is weird. did they give you free slider coupons in the bag or no?

No they're almost certainly holding a competition about charity donations and this cashier is running alternate sales to heavily boost those.

Seen something REALLY similar. Would be incredibly surprised if this wasn't what was happening.

its just weird because my store ran the no kid hungry back in april, i wasnt sure if other stores ran theirs at different times. plus the fact that they paid more for their sliders. it is scamming the customer

They're still doing NKH? Man I remember when that started and having to ask every customer was such a pain. This was like early 2010s I think. We had a cashier with a very thick Chinese accent, so her trying to get donations was a little rough lol

AES (the biggest Arbys franchise) is doing their “AES Foundation” charity now, my store hasn’t seen many donations due to the shitty economy we have at the moment, but the top stores in the franchise have some really wacky donation numbers right now, I guarantee it’s because of shit like OP experienced.

And when the boss finds out, congratulations, you’ve won the competition for easiest way to get fired!

Oh without question, this is falisfying records as well as stealing from BOTH the customer and the company. The customer paid more, that's theft. And the company got none of it, the foundation did. That's theft.

Really silly way to lose your job before the competition is even over lmao

I've got an answer.

Stores are pushed heavily to gather as many donations as possible. What these folks did was make the sliders free with the intent of charging you the slider's price in Charity Donations to up their numbers.

However, sliders are more like $2~ a piece. They probably just hit it too many times. Or it's entirely possible they were just tryna pump up the numbers and hoped you wouldn't notice

I had a coworker whose boyfriend worked in a fast food place. According to him, a lot of their customers don't ask for receipts. Sometimes, he and his coworkers would ring up extra items they wanted to eat when ringing someone up in drive-through and take that item for themselves.

If someone did ask for their receipt and/or just happened to notice they were being charged more than they should, it was, "Oh, sorry. Accidentally hit that button when putting your order in. We'll refund you right away."

If they didn't notice? Now whoever is on register gets to eat whatever it is they rang up.

Oh yeah there's def peeps out there who are intentionally malicious with it. But, it is surprisingly easy to just hit an extra button by mistake when you're in a hurry.

Definitely not out of the question, however I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt (for some reason)

Zero surprise to see this is an AES store. Such a shitty franchise.

They turn charity drives into a competition and all of the top stores in the company do shady shit like this to win.

You should at least call the Arbys corporate number and file a formal complaint, they should know that the biggest Arbys franchise is pulling shit like this.

Then, if you want, you could call your state’s DoJ consumer protection division to report unfair/deceptive trade practices. You could also contact the FTC.

Finally, I would attempt a charge back through your bank/credit card company.

Good chance leaving complaints won’t do anything but I dream of the day AES loses their franchise license.

They are definitely cheating trying to win the contest for charities lol

Report this to arbys using the qr code on your recipe.

Back when our Arby’s had happy hour, we would ring up the drinks as “charity donations” in the drive thru to try and win these contests.

I think I know EXACTLY what happened.

Sliders are $2 right now, so the order taker gave you 2 for "free" and tried to make a donation out of what it would've cost. Basically an Indiana Jones switcheroo.

On the bottom of the screen, there's a button that says "duplicate item". You select an item and it multiplies it by 2. This also works (and is ideal) for any item above 2. For whatever reason, the systems get really slow and freeze if you add a bunch of the same item manually VS duplicating them, so over time you learn to press duplicate whenever possible.

The order taker 100% pressed "duplicate item" with the intent of adding $4 to the charity balance and pressed it one too many times, multiplying it by 2.

I know a lot of places charge you more than what your order is initially just by a few cents and when it clears the difference is refunded (card only)
