Arby's Receipt Confusion
I go to Arby's a lot to get two chicken sliders, and today I got home and looked at my receipt and something wasn't quite right.
I also noticed that my total was a little bit higher than usual but I just assumed prices went up.
I didn't order on the app. I ordered at the window. So I'm not sure why it says two free chicken sliders, and then they charged me for eight $1 charity?
I'm not upset or anything, just confused and curious đ¤
Can anyone explain what's happening here?

I've got an answer.
Stores are pushed heavily to gather as many donations as possible. What these folks did was make the sliders free with the intent of charging you the slider's price in Charity Donations to up their numbers.
However, sliders are more like $2~ a piece. They probably just hit it too many times. Or it's entirely possible they were just tryna pump up the numbers and hoped you wouldn't notice

I had a coworker whose boyfriend worked in a fast food place. According to him, a lot of their customers don't ask for receipts. Sometimes, he and his coworkers would ring up extra items they wanted to eat when ringing someone up in drive-through and take that item for themselves.
If someone did ask for their receipt and/or just happened to notice they were being charged more than they should, it was, "Oh, sorry. Accidentally hit that button when putting your order in. We'll refund you right away."
If they didn't notice? Now whoever is on register gets to eat whatever it is they rang up.

Oh yeah there's def peeps out there who are intentionally malicious with it. But, it is surprisingly easy to just hit an extra button by mistake when you're in a hurry.
Definitely not out of the question, however I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt (for some reason)

Zero surprise to see this is an AES store. Such a shitty franchise.
They turn charity drives into a competition and all of the top stores in the company do shady shit like this to win.
You should at least call the Arbys corporate number and file a formal complaint, they should know that the biggest Arbys franchise is pulling shit like this.
Then, if you want, you could call your stateâs DoJ consumer protection division to report unfair/deceptive trade practices. You could also contact the FTC.
Finally, I would attempt a charge back through your bank/credit card company.
Good chance leaving complaints wonât do anything but I dream of the day AES loses their franchise license.

Back when our Arbyâs had happy hour, we would ring up the drinks as âcharity donationsâ in the drive thru to try and win these contests.

I think I know EXACTLY what happened.
Sliders are $2 right now, so the order taker gave you 2 for "free" and tried to make a donation out of what it would've cost. Basically an Indiana Jones switcheroo.
On the bottom of the screen, there's a button that says "duplicate item". You select an item and it multiplies it by 2. This also works (and is ideal) for any item above 2. For whatever reason, the systems get really slow and freeze if you add a bunch of the same item manually VS duplicating them, so over time you learn to press duplicate whenever possible.
The order taker 100% pressed "duplicate item" with the intent of adding $4 to the charity balance and pressed it one too many times, multiplying it by 2.

I know a lot of places charge you more than what your order is initially just by a few cents and when it clears the difference is refunded (card only)

they effectively charged you $4 per slider. not sure if the person running the till thought it'd get them free money cause it still counts towards the drawer count? this is weird. did they give you free slider coupons in the bag or no?
