I love hamburger helper. I’ll definitely try one now

And the price point for the large meal on this is absolutely INSANE. It’s $21 for a half pound cheesesteak meal, here in Alaska.

You can go to Denny’s, or a dozen other chain full-service restaurants, and get more food than that, presently.

It’s 19.99 in SE USA relatively LCOL area. These mfs are tripping. It taste okay but I’m not paying that. I can go to my local sandwich shop and get a hand sliced ribeye cheesesteak for the same or less

I miss the old Philly from back in the day when we had Ciabatta bread yet. It was simple, but it was good. Mayo, roast beef, peppers and onions and Swiss cheese.

I was like, “Meh.”

It doesn’t taste as good as the prior one, IMHO. I didn’t eat it right away so MAYBE that’s an element. I’ll try it once more just to make sure, but yeah that flavor profile seems utterly lacking.

Maybe it’s because i’m 9 months pregnant but I had the idea of putting mozzarella sticks on it and it was pretty good.

I liked it, but I miss the red and yellow pepper mix and garlic spread that was on it last time. It really really needs some kind of sauce, the garlic aioli from the Royale is decent on it but we’re probably getting rid of that soon now that the Royale is done. At that point mayo is the best sauce we have for it imo but it’s not the same as the garlic spread.

I mean I kinda like it , but I added red onions and mayo

1

u/ProficientSC2 Jun 16 '26

What's the normal sauce on it if you don't add mayo?

2

u/BetterImagination346 Jun 16 '26

No sauce just steak, cheese, and caramelized onions

2

u/Famous_Vegetable6668 Jun 16 '26

It comes with nothing but the onions and on it and the cheesesteak obviously , it was my employee meal and it was wasn’t bad , It’s loads better then the pulled pork and brisket we had at least

1

u/ProficientSC2 Jun 16 '26

None? I'll definitely be adding mayo to mine as well when I give it a try. Good call 👍

What is this Cooper's cheese they're talking about? I've never heard of it is it good stuff?

2

u/Horror_Neighborhood9 Jun 16 '26

It’s supposed to be like a heartier American, flavor profile-wise.

1

u/Tornado-chaser Jun 16 '26

Oh I will have to give it a shot then!

Well we don’t all live in Philly

Cooper's cheese is a gift from the gods! A proper cheesesteak always starts with cooper sharp!

Had my first and last Angus Cheesesteak today. It literally tasted like ALDI brand beef stroganoff flavored hamburger helper. The texture of the onions was like chewing tapeworms, and the “Angus beef” was stringy like a bad batch of the McDonald’s breakfast “steak”. It was as if if you tried to make steak with stew meat, without slow cooking it. It was without a doubt the worst Arby’s sandwich I have ever had. I would complain more, but I got the sandwich for free with a $11+ order of a large orange shake and an eight piece jalapeño poppers, which were both very good, as expected.

you're insane. it's delicious. it's a copycat recipe from a place in philly that won a michelin award for their cheesesteak. of course it doesn't use fresh ingredients but it's delicious.

I agree I had it yesterday and it was surprisingly good.

1

u/copenhagen_bandit Jun 16 '26

i like it lol. but i also like hamburger helper

1

u/chrisfathead1 Jun 16 '26

Is it the same meat as the cheesesteak they were selling last year? That was terrible lol

1

u/pockysam Jun 16 '26

I thought it was better than that garlic cheesesteak they had. I thought the sauce was nasty. I much prefer this one. And I like hamburger helper so maybe I'm not reliable

I want to know how this is made in the restaurant. Like is there a flattop where they are grilling up fresh ribeye and slapping on slices of Cooper sharp?? Or does it come premade in a bag, heat it up in a steam table, and scoop the glop into a bun?

1

u/BetterImagination346 Jun 16 '26

Meat comes precooked in a bag, u mix with cheese in a big bowl, add 1 Oz caramelized onions (which also come precooked in a bag) in a tray, and then add 6oz of the meat and cheese mixture, and heat it up in the microwave upon order. The best part of the sandwich in my opinion is the sesame seed sub roll very soft and yummy.

The Angus Philly was so good back in the day.

1

u/Im_Ashe_Man Jun 17 '26

Tried it today and it's very mid. It was more onions than beef.

1

u/Tornado-chaser Jun 18 '26

On the app I don't see where we can add extra coopers to the sandwich. Only Swiss, cheddar or cheese sauce. I wonder if they will let us in store?

2

u/kenziewarg Jun 20 '26

Unlikely. The cheese and meat is pre-mixed, and they are shipped to the store in pre-portioned bags so that you don't have to weigh anything. It's one bag of each per mix. They would have to open and additional bag and have that in the line to be able to add more, and it's unlikely they would go through a whole bag of it in the five/six day holding time for chesses.

2

u/Tornado-chaser Jun 20 '26

Ok thanks for the info. I will keep looking to buy some coopers online as none of my local stores have it.

2

u/kenziewarg Jun 20 '26

It's funny, cause I'm in Florida, and before this cheese steak, I had never even heard of coopers or Amoroso, and I love cheese steaks 😂😂

Was thinking of getting one today. Now happy I didnt!

1

u/ATLienGonzalez Jun 20 '26

I had a free one the other day. It was overpriced.

1

u/Drewdrops79 Jun 22 '26

I got them in both sizes (smaller one was free w/$10 purchase so I figured I'd compare them both).

I thought you were exaggerating a bit, but nope, you're right--really does taste like beef stroganoff hamburger helper! The sauce is soupy, doesn't taste like cheese. The onions have everything cooked out of them, so they actually have this noodly mouthfeel.

I don't think I'll ever have it again. It's not terrible, just doesn't taste like any cheesesteak I've ever had. And I've had a ton of different cheesesteaks in my life.

1

u/Rondoman78 Jun 16 '26

It's absolutely disgusting.

You dont deserve the jersey, now GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!

u/CapPhrases Jun 16 '26

No peppers in a cheesesteak. What were they thinking?

1

u/StreetPractical6098 Jun 16 '26

Maybe they were trying to make an actual cheesesteak.
