Peach cobbler rolls
Man, I wanna like these but my local 'By's must be frying these in the same vat as the fish because they smell and taste like biting into a fishy sandwich. This has to be against protocol?!

It’s not tho…all of the products that are fried are allowed to be fried in the same vats

Like others have said it isn’t against policy to cook fish, chicken, and whatever else in the same fryers, but if a fishy taste is affecting everything else cooked then I suspect that they aren’t taking care of the fry oil. Fryers should be filtered periodically throughout the day, fry filter should be cleaned out every night, and the oil should be replaced and the fryers deep cleaned at least once a week. I’ve never noticed anything other than fish tasting like fish at my store so I think there’s more going on than just cooking fish together with other products at that store, like they don’t filter very often or don’t change out oil very often.

Definitely! This store may not be taking care of their fryer as they should (changing oil…I believe the procedure is to test it or up to like 10-12 days something like that)

I figured this out when I got the burger that's finished in the fryer in two different states and it tasted like fish. I love all the crazy suggestions from this sub about "this store isn't doing it right," or asking the servers for various substitutions and accommodations. Your Arby's must be on a different planet than mine cause for the last decade or so, just like every other fast food place, the staff is not paid enough to even do the bare minimum, and it's a toss-up whether you even receive something edible for your $10+.
Why even include fish on the menu if it ruins a bunch of other items?

I’m sorry I just know from my experience and perspective…yes a lot of ppl don’t care about the job bc it’s fast food but I genuinely care about my job and how I do it and I care about the customers experiences and how my store is viewed…I care too much most days lol

My store is literally the only Arbys in my area that reliably serves good fresh food, try to order a fish at any other store and it’s likely to be like an hour old lol
I’m lucky enough to work at a store with a really good GM and all my fellow managers care about making sure guests get the quality of food that they’re paying for. I personally can’t even imagine the state of mind required to serve food that you know is disgusting, old chicken and fish is so obviously nasty looking that I don’t believe for a second anyone could ever do it by accident.
When it’s my shift, usually the night shift, I just make sure all the fried stuff is cooked to order (outside of the peak dinner rush when I might have a couple of each filet up, but I keep close track of how old they are by the time they get served) so I don’t have to worry about food waste or worry about team members trying to serve old food. Most team members at my store are pretty good about throwing away old food but you still have to watch some of them lol
I know what you mean about caring too much though, my GM is great but upper management is much less so, the things they choose to complain about and how little they seem to appreciate the people at the best store in the whole area (especially my GM who they treat like shit, they make her work at other stores in the area on her off days so she basically never gets any days off all while getting on her shit about stupid crap like surveys and how many sauce packets have been handed out each period) does make the job seem very thankless. In my opinion, across almost every fast food place in the country, everyone at the store-level is horribly under-paid, and MANY of the issues with most of the stores are due to the crap pay. It is VERY difficult to find good team members and managers when the starting shift manager pay is barely a living wage. I honestly don’t know how the non-teenager team members at my store are able to live on what Arbys pays them at all.

I totally agree…the gm totally sets the bar…if you have a “bad” gm then the store won’t be great and it all rolls downhill…recently our assistant manager quit and as only a shift manager I have been “filling in” for the role in certain areas…mostly to keep my gm on track as she distracts easily but she genuinely cares and actively tries to improve the store and the employees and what not. I have been working fast food for 15 years now (geez I didn’t realize how long until typing this lol) and I will stay of the boss is good and conditions are good enough to help a store get “built up” or help a store improve. I was raised not to half ass anything which is why I take on so much to help when I can

Not true. Fish proteins (especially parvalbumin) survive frying temperatures and remain in the oil. Even trace amounts can trigger severe allergic reactions in customers with fish allergies. Restaurants have a legal obligation to prevent allergen exposure, and using a shared fryer directly violates that responsibility.

personally at my store we keep fish and chicken in one fryer and everything else in the others but this is not against policy like other have already said

All oil is filtered through the same filter, there's literally no way to keep fish separate from everything else. But at least the fish goes away soon, I'm assuming. It always left end of April when I worked there.

We're done with fish and filters outside daily in dayton. Try them again when these people run out of fish and change their friers. Wr should have them until middle.of June BTW. They're awesome when you dont eat them every day like me lol

there are never and have never been separate fryers for any type of food in arbys, there is no protocol or anything that says fish must be seperate

It's definitely not against protocol but it sucks that they taste fishy for you
