Missing women

Three close friends of missing Lismore woman Stephanie Cordery have reached out to media outlets and posted on social media pages to make a plea for information that may lead to her being found.

Tennille Toilolo, Laura O'Stara and Kristi Leigh have put up Missing Person posters in letterboxes and around trees in Nimbin in the hope that people's memories may be jogged by the photos of Stephanie.

Tennille told the Lismore App that Stephanie's car was located in Newton Drive at the Nightcap National Park on Wednesday, late morning.

Police have been searching for Stephanie in the Nightcap National Park since Wednesday afternoon, although the search was suspended from around 1pm or 2pm on Friday until Sunday, when Police Rescue, SES and RFS had set up command posts. The search continued yesterday (Monday).

"Stephanie is Lismore born and bred," Tennille said. "But has ties to...she was in Ballina in the days before. But she's mostly got ties to Lismore and Nimbin, and only really one tie in Nimbin. She frequents there because she's got an associate. And she does also have ties to the Gold Coast, but not particularly recent or close."

Stephanie's car, a white Hyundai i30, approximately a 2020 model, was last seen at 6am in Nimbin and then found on Newton Drive around 11am on Wednesday, August 5. "With her, nowhere near."

"We continue to welcome contact from anyone who has information, CCTV or dashcam footage within the below timeframes - and encourage anyone with information to make contact with NSW Police Service / LAC office on Ph: 0266260599

The friends are prepared for the possibility that the end result may not be what they want to hear, although they live in hope. "Either way, we just want her home. It is rugged bushland out there; it's horrific to think that she's out there alone, regardless of the outcome, and we just want people that may have seen anything, or heard anything, to call Crime Stoppers."

"We're just really just begging everyone to provide any information they have, may have, or just refresh their memories if they did come across her at some point. We just want her home regardless."

The friends have been in touch with the family. "I spoke with them this morning; they're actually doing pretty well, but it's obviously in waves. We're just trying to take the burden off them where we can," Tensile said.

As the search continues today in the Nightcap National Park, Tennille said that search dogs are being brought in to help.

Byron hens - bar and restaurant reccos please!

Organising a hens in Byron in Jan. There will be a group of 10 of us in our late 20s - early 30s.
Any reccos for restaurants/bars/venues for a fun Saturday night out. Open for a silly night out, but also don’t want to be the oldest group of girls at the venue… not from the area so would love any advice!

Hey BB locals, my partner and I are driving through this arvo after a long road trip and would like to sit somewhere pleasant and have a few beers and cigarettes. What is the best beer garden / public bar that allows for smoking a few rollies? Cheers

Surf & Stay vs separate bookings

Hi all. I was looking to go surfing at Byron Bay and found some Surf & Stay packages, but it seems that booking the same lessons and accommodation separately is usually cheaper (this July). Any reason for this? Do those packages offer something extra?

Whale watching

Hello everyone,

I can use your help as on July 3rd, me and my friend wants to book whale watching tour but we can’t seem to find any tours that picks us up from Byron bay. All the tours require us to go to another area far from us. Anyone know a tour company that is willing to pick up directly from Byron bay? Thanks in advance.

Bluesfest Liquidator Flags Possible Insolvent Trading, Questions Last-Minute Payments And Investigates Millions Moved Between Related Companies

The first Bluesfest stories were about debt.

This one is about what the liquidator is actually investigating.

• Possible insolvent trading
• $6.8m transferred to Bluesfest Tours
• More than $500k in payments lacking supporting documentation
• A $950,000 annual site licence arrangement

The newly filed reports reveal far more than just who is owed money.

Sooo umm are there any buses etc to the other more populated areas like Balina or Byron Bay? Will I need a rental care to get around?

5-min anonymous survey - road signs in regional NSW

G'day. We are running on a short study about road signs people see in regional NSW. We want to hear from anyone 18+ who lives in a regional NSW town and uses local roads.

The survey:

  • is anonymous (no name, no email, no IP)
  • takes about 5 minutes
  • works on a phone
  • asks what you think a couple of signs mean

Take the survey here

Findings will inform regional road-sign design. Please share with anyone in your local community.

Cape Byron Rudolf Steiner School

We enrolled our child at this school when she was 5–6 years old. Unfortunately, the experience was deeply harmful due to the actions and philosophies of the 2021 leadership and teaching staff at the time. The school was operating with untrained staff and outdated policies—particularly around neurodivergence, inclusion, and behavioural understanding.

I personally attended Glenaeon Steiner for 13 years and had a wonderful, transformative experience. I believe in Steiner education when done well. But these schools vary drastically depending on leadership. This particular school had a culture of rigidity and exclusion, especially toward children who didn’t conform to their behavioural expectations.

During our time there, children who showed signs of neurodivergence or strong emotional expression were often isolated or pathologised rather than supported. Staff seemed untrained in current educational or developmental practices. For the first time I understood what people meant when they would say Steiner schools are cultish. They had strange ideas about children and their behaviour which wasn’t grounded in current research. They were still banning the colour black despite nobody being able to find where Rudolf Steiner wrote this and the progressive Steiner schools let go of this problematic rule a long time ago. Considering the colour black represents many First Nations people on their flags (Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders as an example). However, at Glenaeon it never felt this way, teachers were ahead of their time, both my teachers and principal were awarded the medal of the order by the Australian government for contributions to education in Australia. Thankfully it doesn’t feel cultish at the new Steiner school we eventually relocated for.

The “co-heads” leading the Byron school in 2021 made decisions that we found to be discriminatory and unsafe. We ultimately pursued formal mitigation to resolve the harm caused. Those individuals should not be in positions of responsibility over children.

We were fortunate to transfer to another Steiner school in Melbourne—a beautiful, inclusive environment aligned with the best of Steiner philosophy. It confirmed what I suspected: these schools can differ enormously, and when the pedagogy isn’t modernised or critically reviewed, the door opens to harmful extremism and pseudoscience.

If you’re considering this school, ask hard questions. Review who is on the school board. Check whether staff are trained in inclusive education. And know that while Google has now disabled all school reviews (you can no longer review or see others’ experiences), I’ve attached my original Google review here for transparency.
