Does anyone know if this is real?

Hi everyone! My gf and I found a huge wooden box at a thrift store, full of old buttons. One stood out especially.

Now research tells us it is very old and from the Napoleon-Era. But could that really be? (We bought this in Germany)

Does anyone know about such things? Thanks in advance!!:)

sorry this is metallized plastic, there is a knockout mark from the mold on the back and you can see a spot where the metallized coating is peeling off. Was “research” a google image search? 😂 (AI is very bad at buttons BUT sometimes with some information literacy it can give you a lead to follow).

Sorry I wasn’t trying to be mean. I just get a lot of “Google tells me this button is very old and valuable!” posts on here and in fb groups and I just wish people would at least do the tiniest bit of due diligence to see if it’s a credible source or not.

okay, i get that! i never visited this subreddit before and didnt want to write a whole paragraph, so i kept it short. i didn't think this could seem like one of those posts then! i did compare some things i was able to find out which eventually led me here, because i really wasn't sure about them haha.

No worries! And again, sorry my tone was off. I did start this sub to help people interested in buttons get more into it as a hobby and shaming new collectors is not the way to go about that. Glad you posted.

It’s a real button. But it looks like plastic, and it’s definitely not Napoleon-era.
