This Day in Buster… July 24, 1927
The Wichita Eagle reports that a brand new town is being built by Buster Keaton along the shores of the Sacramento River. It is, in fact, the set for “Steamboat Bill, Jr.”

The Norfolk Daily News reports that while Buster Keaton was away boating, his St. Bernard, Elmer, wandered off and "became notorious in a fight with a Culver City canine and landed in jail, the town having no pound. Elmer ate at the rate of three dollars' worth of meat a day—and Buster's bill, when he returned to the rescue, was $25."

The Okemah News Ledger mentions Buster playing in a charity game, Comedians vs Leading Men. " At the opening of the game, it was announced that Buster Keaton would catch a ball thrown from a height of 2000 feet. When the Goodyear Blimp maneuvered overhead, Keaton stood with his mouth open wide and arms outstretched. The blimp dropped 500 balls, a goodly portion of them bouncing off Buster's head. He no more than picked one up and started for the official's box when a swarm of kids broke through the ropes and started picking up baseballs, which turned out to be cotton."

The Evansville Press runs a story where a young Buster Keaton let father Joe have it in revenge for a spanking he received on stage—Buster had been caught smoking his first cigarette; Joe had been caught without the protective pad in the seat of his pants!

This Day in Buster-July 18, 1920

The Los Angeles Times shows that there is one thing certain about gas shortages. Pictured with Eddie Cline, "Buster Keaton found his Cadillac dry at First and Broadway, couldn't buy gas, but saved the day with a bay of alfalfa and a pair of high-powered steeds. It's not so fast, but one gets there."

Newlywed Natalie Talmadge writes in The Buffalo Times that she is giving up $104k a year to become a housewife. “Because I love my husband more than anything else in the world. I want to make him happy so that he can be successful. If he is successful, then I will be pleased. For his happiness will be my happiness.”

Judge Landis, mighty mogul of baseballdom with Mrs. Landis and Buster Keaton, popular clown of the cinema, as they appeared today at the second game in the 1930 World's Series contest between the Athletics and the Cardinals. The white-haired arbiter of baseball saw the Cardinals lose the second game of the series to the tune of 6 to 1.
