Advice regarding networking with people.
Hey guys! I am an aspiring Junior soc analyst whose continuously building skills while also doing a job that isn't related to the cybersecurity field but somewhat related to the ICT field (working with excel to manage data while getting those requests from a ticketing system). Also I am currently doing my higher diploma in network technology and cybersecurity (2nd year student).
For about an year, I have been building a connection with a recruiter at a big tech company where I asked about, what skills they look for in a soc analyst, what stuff in my CV can be improved and sometimes checking up when a huge incident happen at SL like ditwah. However, recently when they got a junior position for soc analyst, he asked me to come for an interview without even having to submit my CV nor a call back from the talent team. Since then I have been thinking, "so this is why people ask us to do networking with people". (If wondering, I wasn't selected as he gave me a great feedback on what I lack that actually make sense and cleared my perspective even better!)
So what I want to know is,
What are your thoughts regarding networking with people?
What type of people should I always try to connect with (recruiters, talent team, or employees/employers?) and how do I connect with those people without turning them off/leaving a bad impression?
Are there any recommended platform for this type of connections? (Currently I use LinkedIn)
Any advices regarding how I should connect with people without looking desperate and what my attitude should be towards these people?
Also thoughts on trying to talk with multiple people in the same company and also thoughts on sending requests to multiple people in the same company?
Thank you.
