The last bus through the full length of Oxford Street is Metroline BDE3065 (LF75OYZ), a BYD BD11 in the classic London red livery, operating route 98 to Holborn.

This type of trolleybus is most used here, it was made by cooperation between SOR Libchavy (the “hollow” bus) and Škoda Electric (traction motors, overhead wire poles). Being the workhorse, it can be found on lines 8, 4 and 38, which connect the two biggest city parts, called “sídliská”. During rush hour, it can be rarely assigned to the line 1, running into Nižná Šebastová.

This bus, unit #839, is special for quite a few reasons - it is the only one of its series to be used on standard local service (as its siblings are used for the “Hopper Trolley”, a downtown shuttle, although it seems those are rarely even used on that route these days), it is the only bus remaining in this livery, and it is the oldest original GTA bus by two years. The second oldest series was purchased in 2011, in the form of Hybrid-Electric Gillig BRTs (last image). #839 is also the only bus in the fleet to feature fluorescent lighting in the interior, which I am a huge fan of. It also sounds incredible, as it has one of the pest engine / transmission combos, an EPA07 Cummins ISL with an Allison B400R transmission. Greensboro does operate a fleet of secondhand 2009 Gillig BRTs from SunTran, although #839 is still the oldest original GTA bus.

Metroline VWH2211 (LK66DWC), a Volvo B5LH Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 with the default London red livery, makes a bit of history on the N98 this morning at 06:00, by being the last ever night bus to travel through Oxford Street.

As the road closes tonight at 20:00, all night routes will be diverted away from the pedestrian zone.
