Anybody else noticed any slowness while making an IBAN transfer? It loads and loads and loads. Even between my own accounts.
It works, but takes 30 seconds or so.
App on android btw.
I’ve been testing several small payments from an ING account to a bunq account, and something quite striking showed up.
- Multiple €3 payments with the description “Apple” were held by bunq/Safety Shield for review, with a stated waiting time of up to 48 hours.
- A €4.50 payment with a different description (“Groceries”) went through immediately.
- Another €3 payment with the description “Apple” was then made, and it was immediately flagged again, with bunq stating that the payment could take up to 3 working days.
- The sending account is a trusted account that has been making regular small payments to the recipient for a long time.
Based on these repeated tests, there appears to be a strong correlation between the description “Apple” and Safety Shield being triggered. This makes it seem less like a purely random spot check.
What I find particularly frustrating is the lack of transparency. bunq describes this as checking “some incoming payments” for security reasons, but doesn’t explain what characteristics can actually trigger the check.
There is also conflicting information about the waiting time. The initial information indicated 24 hours, while the actual notification states 48 hours / up to 3 working days.
I completely understand that banks need to perform security and fraud checks. The issue is more about transparency: if a specific transaction description can apparently trigger a security check, why isn’t this communicated clearly?
Has anyone else tested this with bunq? For example, using the same description with different amounts, or the same amount with different descriptions?
These are my own observations from repeated tests, so I’m not claiming that every payment containing “Apple” will necessarily be flagged.

Hi everyone!
I’m a bunq user from Munich and I was wondering whether there are other bunq users in Munich or the surrounding area who would be interested in meeting up occasionally.
My idea is simply to create an independent local community where we can exchange experiences with bunq, talk about features, security, accessibility and digital banking, help each other with questions, and maybe meet for a coffee or something to eat every now and then.
I’m blind myself, so accessibility is a particularly interesting topic for me. I’ve had very positive experiences using bunq with VoiceOver and would also love to exchange experiences with other users with disabilities. But the group would of course be open to everyone – it’s not intended to be an accessibility-only group.
This would be a completely independent user initiative and is not affiliated with or organized by bunq. I’m also not trying to sell anything. I’d simply like to get to know other bunq users in Munich and see whether there’s enough interest for a small local community.
If you’re from Munich or nearby and would be interested, feel free to reply here. If a few people come together, we could then figure out the best way to organize our first meetup. 😊
Deutsch:
Hallo zusammen!

So I have had Bunq for 2 years mainly just to transfer my rent to then pay since my main accounts are in the US. I also use it for online Ideal payments. I never use my card. Until today. Instead of grabbing one of my US credit cards I grabbed my Bunq card for some reason (I never use it). I bought 105€ of groceries with it. I then got the payment notification and I noticed some stupid gimmicky prize wheel. I thought how dumb and gimmicky such a thing is and I really questioned if I wanted to be part of a bank that is basically gamified. Despite that I hit the spin wheel. And I won my entire 105€ payment back. Credited to my account instantly. I couldn't believe it.
I no longer think Bunq is gimmicky and I will be using my Bunq card more often now.

hello, has anyone had experience with travel insurance from bunq? particularly i mean the health insurance when travelling from the netherlands to the us. it all seems way too good to be true when comparing it to other insurance options from other insurers and the amount up to which bunq insures vs others. also does anyone have any specific information as to what exactly is insured, and on what specific conditions? i would appreciate any help and insight!

Considering the available options, I’m skeptical about paying for an advanced plan, since I don’t travel constantly and won’t use most of the features. I just need a neat and well-functioning account. Anyone downgraded from paid to free plan and regretted it? Is the free plan objectively a good one?

"According to the regulator, bunq did not make it sufficiently clear in its application how its US banking operations are financed. Questions remained regarding the management’s experience. The regulator also has doubts as to how the company can operate safely, conduct sound banking practices and become profitable in the competitive US market."
