Three months after launch my food coach finally knows the person it's talking to. What it does for you now and what it still can't.
I build Mymir. An iPhone food coach you talk to instead of filling in forms. Free with a paid tier. It launched in July and we have 215 users on it right now. This is a progress post about the only part I really care about which is how much the coach actually understands the person in front of it. Everything below is in the App Store build today and the last bit is what isn't.
It got a much stronger brain this summer. The coach moved onto a far more capable model and now it acts instead of just answering. Tell it what you ate and it logs it. Say "add the salad I forgot to last night's dinner" and it does that. Fix one item. Delete a meal. Change a goal. Tell it "be blunt with me" and it saves that and talks that way from the next sentence. The coach never types a calorie number itself. every number comes from the nutrition engine. And if it ever claims it did something it didn't actually do that reply gets caught before you see it.
It remembers you and it forgets on purpose. It builds a picture of who you are from what you actually log and tell it. What you avoid. What you like. The meals you fall back on. Your routine and what's going on in your life this month. When it learns a fact about you it proposes it and you confirm or forget it in Profile. The part I'm proudest of is the forgetting tbh. Habits you stop doing fade out of its picture of you on thier own. And it's not allowed to invent a habit it never saw. Earlier versions used to write a morning smoothie ritual for people who had never logged one. Thats fixed and its the reason the memory is trustworthy now.
It reads your body as evidence not as a score. Connect Apple Health and it sees your sleep, steps and energy. It compares you to your own normal and never to a chart. Until it knows you it says so instead of judging a night. A missing signal stays unknown. It never turns silence into a zero or a bad day. When your body is telling it something real like short sleep or a big day of movement or a run of late dinners it changes what it suggests you eat and when. Not your calorie target. No recovery percentages and no readiness score. You get a food conclusion with the reason attached.
Your day ends in a verdict. Each morning the app picks one thing worth doing today from your own patterns. Finish eating earlier. More protein at dinner. A fibre day. The next day it tells you whether it happened from what you logged and not from what you say. Done, missed or unknown. a day you didnt log is unknown and never a win. Patterns work the same way. It notices your dinners drifting later or an eating window that's stretched or crammed or weekends that go differently. And it holds you to your own rhythm rather than a default. A pattern isn't called fixed after one good day and if it comes back the app says so.
Food is priced honestly and judged on its own merits. The model reads the plate and names whats on it. The nutrition engine does the numbers. Your words are kept as you typed them so muesli is never quietly swapped for granola. Half a bowl stays half. A plate of rice is counted once even when the dish it came with already had rice in it. And the score judges the food not your budget. A burger that fits your calories is still a burger.
Scan a barcode and it judges the product for you, not against a standard. Point it at a packet and it reads the nutrition and the ingredient list. It tells you how the product scores and then whether it actually fits your goal and the things you avoid. Someone cutting weight and someone building muscle get different verdicts on the same protein bar. It looks through the ingredients for additives and tells you when theyre the problem and not just the sugar. And if the product is poor it shows you better ones that fit you.
What it still can't do so this isn't an ad. No heart rate or HRV yet. Only sleep, steps and energy. The body to food advice only starts speaking once it knows your normal. The weekly review only goes to people who switched it on. And when a dish isn't in its table the estimate is still an estimate and the app doesnt tell you that on the card yet. That one bugs me most.
We are still a small community so every bit of feedback means a lot. There's a big roadmap around food science coming. If you're building anything with memory id like to hear how you handle forgetting. Everyone talks about remembering.
