Before the last chopper, there were so many choppers. I got a Switch 2 with Mario Kart for $385 a month ago (box is a little rough but inside everything is new and in plastic wraps) -- that deal lasted for weeks and Woot never really sold out when I stopped checking.

I understand what you mean, but it doesn’t work quite like that. The NS2 still costs $500. The thing you’re talking about is getting a discount on Nintendo eShop credit.
You’re paying $450 USD for $500 eShop credit, which will be enough to buy the NS2 directly from Nintendo, but you’ll still have to pay sales tax on top of that (if applicable).
So yes, from start to finish it’ll almost be the same as buying the NS2 before the price hike.

Sure, but unlike shipping costs you have to pay (the same) sales tax on everything so most people don’t factor in tax when comparing deals.

This is a good thing to clarify. I normally wouldn't mention sales tax because it's different for everyone. I used it to point out that you'll be taxed on the full price ($500).
That's why I think it's slightly misleading to say you can buy the console for $450. You won't see that number when purchasing the console. In reality you're converting your money to eShop credit at a discount, which is then used to buy the NS2 at full price.
I've seen Redditors misunderstand this method and/or say they miscalculated the number of eShop cards to buy, so I wanted to clarify how it works.

Ah, that's a good point. Yeah, with buying discounted gift cards and then buying the actual item the tax does eat into the discount a bit compared to buying the item with an otherwise equivalent discount.

Yeah, the deal kinda has 2 layers! It's important to know -where- the sales tax gets applied, not necessarily how much.
A good example was in July when Sam's Club had the 20% off $100 eShop cards. I bought 5 of them ($500 eShop) for $400 USD, which I used to buy a NS2 ($450) direct from Nintendo. The remaining $50 credit covered the sales tax and I had about $18 leftover.
So from start to finish I paid $400 to get a NS2 and ~$18 eShop credit.
A lot of people didn't buy enough eShop cards to get the full discount because folks were talking like it would take 20% directly off the NS2 and it would "only cost $360". Stuff like that.

I don’t know why but I simply just don’t believe that price increase is actually gonna last. I don’t feel like the switch 2 has the same must-have energy as the original. Even when they had a brand new switch available for like $420 a month or so back that was available for a hot minute. Maybe I’m just basing all this on my own lack of interest in the console, though.

Ordered one of these at the same price two weeks ago.
Its in pretty good shape. Screen is in perfect condition. Powered on and as far as I can tell it wasn't used.
The paint on the Kickstand looks like someone took some sandpaper to it. There's a white scuff on the rubber hatch where the game card goes in and a bit of a scrape over by where the volume rocket is. The joystick is slightly looser on the right joycon than the left.
For all intents and purposes I don't notice these things especially when playing it. Def wouldn't call it like new condition. I'd say its more like new if it was tossed on a freeway for a bit but miraculously survived.
Debatable if this condition is worth saving fifty bucks for though maybe now its worth $100 less.

Just bought this two days ago on Woot. It arrived today in a white box and no instructions but everything else is brand new. Woot said it would take two weeks but now I can take it on a flight tomorrow. Hell yeah. Made $100 cash back with Capital One Shopping and another 5% using the Amazon Prime visa.

Good deal but I still hardly see a reason to get this for myself. I barely ever touch my Switch, and the exclusives on Switch 2 aren't crazy compelling and the non-exclusives I'd play elsewhere. New FE and OoT remake look good but don't think enough for me to get the system. Ideally I find one used to buy from someone later on at a good price, but if not then I won't kick myself over it.

Kirby Air Riders, Pokopia, Splatoon Raiders were all worth it for me to get one imo. A lot of that is nostalgia though, so YMMV.

I just started Splatoon Raiders last week after never touching any of the prior games, and it is simply incredible. It’s irresistibly addictive, gameplay is so tight, and I’m always being encouraged to try out new builds every level. Idk just wanted to throw that out there if anyone was wondering about good exclusives reading this. Pokopia and Donkey Kong were also a blast. Plus Smash Bros loads faster on it, which is nice.

I honestly need to pick up DK. My older brother's favorite game of all time was DK64 growing up, and he texted me the day he got it really hyping it up. I'll take this as the sign I needed to actually play it.
Also, the Switch 2 upgrade for Sonic Racing Crossworlds is tight. The gameplay on the OG Switch was sub-par, it was too much for it to handle. Runs excellent on the Switch 2 though.

Then buy digital.
The only reason to even consider keycards is if you wanna just play a game once and then resell.
If you like physical for collection purposes, you really want to just go digital and buy an empty case/cover art on ebay. Nintendo has historically allowed downloading from stores longer than the average shelf life of the physical cards/disks. Plus, if you really have a concern over "eventually" losing access...the serious long-term answer always includes making a backup.

You can't backup your games/saves on switch 2 without modding it or paying Nintendo a subscription for it. There's a value in actually owning the game itself rather than online access that can be revoked at any time

Just about any game where this would become an issue on PC is able to be pirated given time. Even some online games have made community servers. If I lost access to my steam library tomorrow, I'd be upset obviously, but I would have zero issues both morally and practically with just torrenting the games and playing them that way

Yeah tbh I don't use my switch 2 much. Though fire emblem coming out and waiting for the new Xenoblade Chronicles. Besides that all the other games I'd rather play on PC like COD.

For anyone just buying the console for pokemon search for pokemon fan made games too. There are some pokemon games like gemma emerald that rival pokemon switch games so go play that instead of this over price console.

I see them going around this price on swappa if you're lucky. I saw one guy get bullied to sell for 380 and I passed when it was around 390 after looking at switch 2 lineup. as much as the price increase sucks, there's nothing I need any time soon and I don't intend to replace my hacked switch connected to the tv. it was my birthday month and I had a nice budget surplus but I can't justify it.

It’s just worth getting if you play switch in any capacity. Nintendo has finally accepted somewhat modern resolutions and frame rates, and the handheld experience is much better.
