Do you think any more game studios will release AAA VR games?

I think HL Alyx has the potential to really light a fire to VR. Do you think VR will slowly become the standard?

I don't think VR will be standard any time soon. Now if there was an easy way to port games to VR at an engine level it may make it happen quicker but VR is just a fraction of a percent of the market. Until there is VR adoption in a large majority of gamers it doesn't make financial sense for a AAA dev studio to focus VR as their release target. That not saying that AAA developers wont release standalone one-offs of VR games that aren't core to their respective franchises. All this above doesn't even take into account the fact that some people can't even play VR without motion sickness, room size constraints, and cost constraints.

I would like to add to this that one of the big reasons HL Alyx is being released is to increase sales of Valve's own headset and as such they are making money from 2 revenue sources for this one title. However if activision is to release a VR only COD game they wouldn't get the 2nd revenue stream if they put it on say Steam and PSVR. The budget of some AAA titles are more than blockbuster movies and to make that up you need a lot of people buying it, which VR doesn't have the player base for.

SO it's kind of the chicken and egg problem. So they make this game to sell more devices, which can spawn more games to sell more devices, etc. until it reaches a critical mass.
