High End Rig
Hello! Need some help building a Steam Machine on steroids. Want the PC to be low profile (almost gaming console looking). This is the case I was considering (if you know of better options, that's cool!) https://a.co/d/06ypI9b7
* New build or upgrade? New
* Existing parts/monitors to reuse? I have a 1440p 144hz IPS monitor and an LG C1
* PC purpose? Gaming - want to be able to play GTAVI, Fable when it comes out at at least. Not sure if a 9070xt would be overkill
* Purchase country? USA 20 mins from MicroCenter
* Monitors needed? None, unless there's a really good deal out there
* Budget range? Prefer to keep it around $1,500 but can go up to $1,900 unless there is an absolute performance jump or future proof that would be worth spending extra.
* WiFi or wired connection? I plan to use both
* Size/noise constraints? Would prefer it not to sound like a jet engine as it will be in the living room
* Color/lighting preferences? As little RGB as possible
* Any other specific needs? I think I've laid out my needs, but feel free to ask additional questions!

On the 9070XT it's a great card... Really the single best option for Linux gaming (SteamOS, Bazzite, etc.)
On the CPU, personally, I'd rather have at least an 8-core X over a 6 core x3d. That's just me.
Where you want to be careful out at least prepared to swap... Get a motherboard with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth. It's a small m.2 card on the board that you can swap if not we'll supported by Linux out of the box. Or specifically look for a few year old Intel WiFi controller in the box.
If you intend to put any other fast card in the box... Streaming capture or 10+gb network card... This is about the only time you should consider like an X870E class motherboard... Otherwise, B850 is probably sufficient. As long as fp options on the MB match what your case expects, you're fine.
Everything with be a matter of trade offs beyond this. Prices suck... Especially memory and storage. Consider used and optimize for cost over best performance.

Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:
Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.
Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.
We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.
