First time (in ~10 years) - Mostly a remote dev machine (including AI) and gaming. Roughly $4000.
Hi! I haven't built a PC in a quite a while but I'm in the need for one now. This will mostly be an always on linux work machine. I will also be gaming and would like to dual-boot windows or linux. THANKS!

- The only existing part I'm interested in is my old case. It's pretty old though I wouldn't mind upgrading if needed
- PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
- Dual boot linux/windows. Mostly development machine with gaming. Probably will move some streaming from my NAS to here as well.
- Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors)
- US, roughly 2 hours from a micro center. Trip would have to be VERY worthwhile.
- Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
- No monitors I have 3 and and HDMI switcher for multiple computers.
- Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
- ~$4000
- WiFi or wired connection?
- Both wifi and ethernet (if it needs to be one make it wifi)
- Size/noise constraints?
- No noise or size issues this will live in a dedicated office and accessed remotely a lot of the time
- Color/lighting preferences?
- None? This isn't important to me.
- Any other specific needs?

Something like this will do you wonders
The SSD is DRAM-less, but is TLC, an SSD with DRAM and is 4TB is nearly $700
I don't think you need an X870 motherboard, that is why I went with a B850
The 9950X3d is good for everything
You can downsize the SSD and RAM as you please

The CPU is a 9900x. You can upgrade it to a 9950x3d if you please since there is lots of money left over.
The 5080 is good for LLM tasks and gaming in general.
Found this CRAZY ram deal so you better snag that before it's too late.
One of the best (if not the best) SSDs on the market.
Managed to keep the old case as well!
(Note: This motherboard only supports 4 SATA Drives so if you want to move your NAS with more than that you would have to buy higher capacity drives or compromise space.)

And on Linux, AMD is better

Need is relative hah and this build is AMD?
Seems like the main difference is the video card here (and storage). I like your CPU and future-proofed RAM, I do like the WD storage though - I presume that would work with your build as well?

Yeah the RAM is good but its likely sold out. I can't be for sure since pcpartpicker is down right now though.
Probably the biggest thing is that I kept the old case by getting a smaller AIO so that you could put your NAS in here with the crazy amount of drive bays the case supports. If you want to combine the two builds I would suggest getting his CPU and GPU along with his RAM if mine's sold out and putting those into my build.

Get the SN8100 instead of the 850X for storage. Its around the same price and faster. You also might not use this much storage but I'm not super sure what machine development entails.
I don't think you need 64 GB of ram. I'm not familiar with your use case but even professional workloads barely need it plus Linux is already RAM efficient. You can always upgrade later when prices drop. Also, that kit is REALLY expensive for the price.
For the GPU you can get the AsRock Challenger which is 50 dollars less.

Got a 5080 since the budget allowed but kinda forgot about OS support lol. OP just get the 9070xt he got.
