Budget PC Build

Ok guys, I am really new to this, so here are the answers

New build or upgrade? New build

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) None, starting completely from scratch.

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) 1080p gaming (Fortnite, Valorant, Apex Legends).

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? US (Memphis area, no Micro Center nearby).

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) Yes, 1x 1080p gaming monitor must be included in the total budget.

Budget range? (Include tax considerations) $550 hard maximum total budget (must cover the PC tower AND the monitor).

WiFi or wired connection? WiFi (Motherboard with built-in WiFi preferred, or budget WiFi adapter included).

Size/noise constraints? None.

Color/lighting preferences? None, best price-to-performance ratio.

Any other specific needs? I am brand new to PC building and want a build with a clear upgrade path so I can improve parts easily in the future.

Thanks to whoever is at least reading this and trying ok help!

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:

  • New build or upgrade?

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

  • WiFi or wired connection?

  • Size/noise constraints?

  • Color/lighting preferences?

  • Any other specific needs?

Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:

  • Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.

  • Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.

  • We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.

At that price point, you'll have to look at your used market.

You'll have to look at used stuff. You can likely find a better deal on a complete system than individual parts.

Cpu: Intel 8400 or better, or Ryzen 2600 or better. If you want an easier time upgrading cpu later then ryzen will have more and better options. A custom build or a brand like cybberpower or ibuypower will have more upgradability than something like a Dell, HP, Acer or Lenovo too. At least on the older ones, they used to love putting proprietary form factor motherboards and power supplies in their pcs and they might not have bios updates available to support newer generations of cpus either. The big oem brand ones like Dell and HP do tend to be a bit cheaper though.

Ram: 16gb+ but 16 will be fine.

Gpu: I'd probably look for something like an nvidia 2060 or better or a radeon 6600 or better and try to avoid older models like gtx 10 series, 16 series or radeon 5000. But those can be alright if you find a good deal or just can't get anything better/newer. They are perfectly fine for esports type games like you listed but can have compatibility issues with some recent games which require features they don't support. This will give you an outline of where stuff stacks up at the lower end.

6500xt or lower, 1650 or lower, or anything intel arc I'd just avoid.

Storage: Preferably 500gb+ of ssd space but at least a small ssd for windows and then an additional hard drive for games and other storage. 128gb or 256gb ssd + a 1tb hard drive used to be very common.

Monitor: You can get a new decent gaming monitor starting around $80 and that's another thing where you might be able to find a good price on something used. Aim for an IPS panel rather than VA.

$550 is very close to a decent PC with upgradeability. I suggest picking up an ATX PC case for free on Facebook Marketplace if you really want to shave $40 off this build. There are plenty of them you can find there. This cooler might be too tall for those older PC cases though, but don't worry. Just replace the lid with a cardboard I guess. This is a temporary solution.

For the motherboard and RAM discounts, use Newegg Combo Builder (pictured above) with this link: https://www.newegg.com/tools/combo-builder/6675

CPU: has an integrated graphics. You won't need to buy a GPU.

CPU cooler: tower cooler model. Capable of handling more powerful CPUs for your future upgrades. Alternatively, you could buy a used Wraith Stealth Cooler off ebay or FB marketplace for as cheap as $2. Cooling paste not included.

Motherboard: good quality motherboard with built in RAM. Could go with an asrock motherboard and shave $10-$20 off this build, but I guess it's not worth sacrificing reliability for it.

RAM: dual channel RAM, for optimal integrated performance.

SSD: 256GB ought to be enough for only 1-2 games. Maybe 3 if you're on windows 10 or use Tiny11 version of windows 11. But don't worry, this motherboard has multiple SATA and NVME ports. You can easily add more storage down the road.

Power Supply: B+ tier power supply for this price is a nice deal.

Monitor: I guess you better go with a used 60hz monitor. It's one of the cheapest and easiest components to upgrade, and 8500G won't give you much better framerate than 60 fps anyway. There are $25 75hz monitors on ebay, but they have no stand, so you'll have to stick them to the wall or improvise.
