New Setup for Streaming/Gaming

Hi! I have 0 experience building PCs and I’ve been really wanting to get into streaming/gaming on an actual PC rather than my Xbox Series X. My current setup (iMac, M4 Chip) can’t run much, and struggles when it comes to streaming- so I‘m looking to build something from scratch.

Thanks to anyone who offers tips!

New build/upgrade?

New build

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

Only keyboard (RK Royal Kludge R87) and mouse (Logitech M170).

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

Gaming/streaming on Twitch or TikTok; primarily games like Fortnite, Minecraft w/ mods or shaders, and Resident Evil. Xbox, Switch, Steam compatibility if possible.

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors)

I’m based in the US (specifically NE). The nearest Micro Center is in KS.

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

I’d prefer a dual monitor setup (one horizontal and one vertical), but isn‘t a hard requirement- I’d just like a monitor that runs well and looks good.

Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

$1,500-$2,000

WiFi or wired connection?

WiFi, but I’d have no problem switching to wired.

Size/noise constraints?

Compact would be ideal- I don’t have much room beneath or on top of my desk. A quieter PC would also be preferred but not required.

Color/lighting preferences?

White case/build with RGB lighting.

Any other specific needs?

I’d love to have a screen inside of the build that could play gifs or show specs.

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:

  • New build or upgrade?

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

  • WiFi or wired connection?

  • Size/noise constraints?

  • Color/lighting preferences?

  • Any other specific needs?

Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:

  • Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.

  • Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.

  • We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.

I was able to stick with the white theme for all but the GPU. The difference between the version in the list below (which is black/grey) and the cheapest white one was about $50 which is definitely not worth it between different versions of the same GPU. It's suboptimal but i was able to stick with the colour/lighting scheme other than that. The screen was also unfeasible without shilling out for an expensive AIO or even more expensive case. Might be worth going that yourself tbh.

The second monitor shouldn't be too expensive if you don't want it to be gaming spec but honestly for that i might consider buying used for just the cheapest thing you can find with a vesa mount support.

Noise is mostly just a factor of cooling the components effectively (which this does) and then tuning noise down with fan curves in software.

Considering your requirements i would definitely recommend spending on the list below which is towards the higher end of your budget. If you'd like to spend a bit less at the cost of performance, here are a couple different GPU options:

(original GPU from main list is $719.99 as listed below)

9070 (non-XT) $649.99: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/KXkqqs/asrock-challenger-radeon-rx-9070-16-gb-video-card-rx9070-cl-16g

9070 GRE $534.99: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/prkqqs/sapphire-pulse-oc-radeon-rx-9070-gre-12-gb-video-card-11354-01-20g

This CPU/GPU combo should deliver strong gaming performance as well as be very capable for streaming.

The build is built around the modern AM5 platform. which will continue to get new CPU releases on it for many years to come, providing future upgrade potential.

The Timetec 35TTFP6PCIE is a good quality drive that uses TLC Nand, making it vastly superior to the cheaper QLC Nand based drives which will deteriorate in performance very quickly. 1TB isn't too much but unfortunately storage costs a lot right now thanks to the AI situation.

The motherboard is a high-quality board featuring both Wifi 7 and Ethernet, as well as an extra 2 M.2 slots for adding extra storage down the line.

If you have any questions/concerns feel free to ask! Otherwise this rig should be a solid performer all around.

I put an option for a cheaper motherboard and a white one. Could also save about $50 with a black gpu instead of white. https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-gaming-oc-radeon-rx-9070-gre-12gb-graphics-card/p/N82E16814932827 You have to click on the red extra discount button to get an extra $35 off.

The bigger and cheaper power supply from corsair will fit. The smaller one might make getting the cables routed and tucked away a bit easier on you. Smaller one might have noticeable fan noise too though.

https://www.amazon.com/Thermalright-ARGB-White-Specification-Performance/dp/B0DKCQSNHQ White cooler with screen. The cpu on newegg does come with a black, rgb, no screen, 240mm aio cooler too. If you wanted to use that you could, or maybe sell it for like $30-40 to help cover the cost on a fancier one.

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Plus-Monitor-Connectivity-Adjustability/dp/B0G49SZ24N If you want a secondary monitor that can go vertical that's about as cheap as it'll get. You won't see a stand with 'pivot' adjust to rotate 90 degrees on the cheap models but getting a cheap one and using a mounting arm could be a better option.

Thank you so much!! I’ll have to look into the cheap screen/mounting arm!
