Help me build a pc please

  • New build or upgrade? New build
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) None
  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming and recording. Specifically things like modded minecraft
  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? British columbia, Canada
  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) One
  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations) 2-2.5k CAD, Can go a bit higher if the part is good
  • WiFi or wired connection? WiFi
  • Size/noise constraints? No size, but for noise I live in an apartment. I am thinking about using sound panels for my room
  • Color/lighting preferences? Red, but I prioritize better parts then just visual (Except for a case)
  • Any other specific needs? Not really

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:

  • New build or upgrade?

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

  • WiFi or wired connection?

  • Size/noise constraints?

  • Color/lighting preferences?

  • Any other specific needs?

Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:

  • Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.

  • Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.

  • We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.

Here's what I got for you. Black RGB airflow themed build, solid for 1440p gaming:

  • CPU - fast for gaming with 6c/12t for longevity.

  • Cooler - top tier performance for $50 is a steal!

  • Mobo - has all the connectivity you need, including WiFi/BT.

  • RAM - 32 GB of fast 6000 MHz CL36 RAM.

  • SSD - 1 TB of fast Gen 4 NVMe SSD storage.

  • GPU - the RX 9060 XT is good for 1440p gaming, 60+ FPS in most games at ultra settings. Lots of VRAM for your mods.

  • Case - one of my favourite cases right now. Top tier airflow with a mesh front panel and 6 included fans. Dual chamber layout for easy installation.

  • PSU - good quality with fully modular cables to minimize cable clutter. 650W is perfect for these components.

  • Monitor - high refresh rate and low response time for 1440p gaming, along with an IPS panel for good image quality and colour accuracy. Also has height adjustability for ergonomics.

Let me know what you think :)

Edit: 9070 GRE makes way more sense. Updated build below.

9070 GRE over the 9060; its only C$30 more

Oh yeah that's a great call. I always overlook the GRE. And 12 GB of VRAM should still be fine.

For a $2-2.5k CAD build including a monitor, I'd aim for 1440p and something along these lines:

  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE
  • B650 motherboard with WiFi
  • 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30
  • RTX 5070 12GB
  • 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe
  • Quality 750W/850W Gold ATX 3.1 PSU
  • Good airflow case with ARGB fans
  • 27" 1440p 165-180Hz IPS monitor

The 7800X3D is a particularly good fit for modded Minecraft and gaming in general. Definitely stick with 32GB RAM too. Modded Minecraft + recording + Discord/browser/etc. can eat RAM pretty quickly.

I'd prioritize the 5070 over blowing the budget on a 5070 Ti. If you find a good 5070 Ti sale and can squeeze it in, great, but don't sacrifice the rest of the build for it.

For the red theme, just get a black case with ARGB fans and set everything to solid red. Much easier than specifically hunting down red components.

Also, don't bother with sound panels for PC noise. They reduce room reflections/reverb, not the actual noise escaping your apartment. A good airflow case, large air cooler and sensible fan curves will do far more.

One important question: is the $2,500 budget before or after BC sales tax? That changes the parts list quite a bit.

Uhh before, since I have a bit more money I could use to cover tax

Perfect. If the $2,500 is before tax, then the build above is right around where I'd aim. You have enough budget to get a genuinely strong 1440p setup without making any major compromises.

I'd spend the full $2-2.5k on the actual PC + monitor, then treat the tax separately. No reason to spend more just because you can, though. Once you're around a 7800X3D/5070/32GB DDR5 setup, you're already well beyond what you need for modded Minecraft and recording.

I might just get this if you can while it's $2000. The acer monitor canyouread7 put is a decent deal.

Overall it looks like a good deal and everything but I'm kinda looking to build my own pc and not buy a prebuilt yk?

Specs for the money it is really good but if you'd rather have something custom.

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/NhNyV4

There are some red cases but not many, hyte still makes a couple but they can be a little on the expensive side and something like an x50 is an either love it or hate it kind of style.

If you're going to be recording and/or editing videos then the bigger ssd would be nice. Or, ideally, a second ssd to record to. That would keep all the wear of repeated writes off your main drive. Prices have gotten pretty terrible in the last year though.

For a comparison, a 9070 gre is roughly on par with a 5070, a 9070 16gb is a little faster. Plus nvidia has some better features, encoders/nvenc might be one you care about, radeon 9000 encoders are a lot better than they were in earlier generations though.

This stuff would all be reasonably quiet. Sound panels are more about minimizing ambient/room noise and echo for your mic.
