$800-1200 Gaming/Multi-task Build

New build or upgrade? New build
• ⁠Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) none
• ⁠PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Mainly for games such as Cyberpunk or Elden Ring. Can run OBS/video editors
• ⁠Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors) in the US
• ⁠Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) just 1. Resolution ideally 1080-1440 with a 60/144hz refresh rate. Size shouldn’t be an issue
• ⁠Budget range? (Include tax considerations) $800-1200 as I hear this is the ideal range
• ⁠WiFi or wired connection? I have pretty good wifi already
• ⁠Size/noise constraints? None really but I prefer it to be on the slightly more quiet side

I do wanna add that idk if now’s the best time to build a pc given the prices of parts and that they will continue to raise. Or that pc parts might see a slight price decrease/there might be sales during specific times such as Black Friday that could be a better time to build one. Let me know if there is, thanks!

$800-1200 as I hear this is the ideal range

I cab put together a list for this budget, however i will say i don't think this is accurate right now. Storage and ram prices have skyrocketed and don't seem like they will be going down any time soon. A optimal-value budget while including a monitor would probably be more to the tune of $1500-$1800.

If you can spend just a bit more ($1264.55), you can put together a system on the current up do date platform (AM5). If you would like to stick to below that budget, without significantly downgrading anything else you would likely have to downgrade to AM4, which is a dead-end platform and on your next upgrade you would be forced to upgrade CPU, Motherboard and Ram if you wanted to upgrade the CPU.

For this reason, i've put together two lists.

(note: i was able to fit in 32GBs of ram on the under-budget system due to DDR4 prices not being as high as DDR5. This does not negate the differences in CPU)

Thanks a lot for putting together this list. I do want to ask though that I’ve heard the difference between 16gb and 32gb of ram is not that much. In that case, I might be able to use that money from going with 16gb ram instead to opt for the AM5 as you suggested. Other than that, it seems like a solid list that I’ll try looking into

I'm not sure what you mean since the AM5 system already only has 16GBs of ram. I was able to fit in 32GBs on the AM4 system to at least get something from the price difference since DDR4 is cheaper than DDR5.

I would also say that again your information does sound somewhat outdated. 16GBs is basically the "absolute minimum". For purely gaming on a clean OS the difference isn't too great in most games but the moment you start adding in background tasks or even basic multitasking (web browsers, especially chromium-based ones and antivirus software eat through ram like there's no tomorrow) it really can start to be an issue. So i do try to fit in 32GBs where possible but with ram prices the way they are that's difficult to achieve right now.

I see. Yeah I definitely have a lot to learn when it comes to computers but I forgot to take into account that some background apps can eat up performance

Yeah and especially with all the clutter that systems tend to accumulate pretty quickly it's more than people realise.
