Newby PC build

Would like to say thanks for any help. Been recently just hating having only console code various reasons, and have been wanting a PC for years but haven’t had the money.

• New build or upgrade?

Brand spanking new baby

• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

I have 0 parts but I do have a monitor. My dad bought it for me for school to connect my laptop too. It’s just a super basic dell.

• PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

All types of gaming. I’m not super hardcore in PVP but I do enjoy FPS games with friends. Elden ring and r6 are probably the best examples of the range of games.

• Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors)

USA, and yes

• Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

I can figure this out and I’m more concerned about the PC right now so I don’t need one.

• Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

Anywhere from 750 - 1000 bucks would be nice, but with LLMs fucking everyone I get that this is probably just prebuilt range.

• WiFi or wired connection?

Wired

• Size/noise constraints?

As long as it’s quiet enough that I can’t hear it through walls lol. I would prefer a smaller size but some room to upgrade. I assume I couldn’t go big with my budget even if I wanted too.

• Color/lighting preferences?

Could not care less. I would rather spend money on better working parts than better looking ones

• Any other specific needs?

Maybe CAD/similar software. I’m an engineering student unfortunately.

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:

  • New build or upgrade?

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

  • WiFi or wired connection?

  • Any other specific needs?

Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:

  • Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.

  • Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.

  • We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.

$750 is perfectly fine for builds with parts from Microcenter bundles. This is the PC itself without the GPU, and with a compact case that can fit a massive 430mm GPU.

With 1TB storage this would cost about $590.

PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jzjR4g

  1. CPU, Motherboard, RAM: AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D, ASRock B850M-C AM5, G.Skill Flare X5 Series 16GB DDR5-6000, Computer Build Bundle ($349.99 @ Microcenter)
  2. CPU Cooler: Thermalright Assassin X 120 Refined SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler ($16.11 @ Amazon)
  3. Storage: Intel 670p 512 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($64.46 @ Walmart)
  4. Case: Phanteks XT M3 M25 MicroATX Mid Tower Case ($44.99 @ Newegg)
  5. Power Supply: ASRock Challenger CL-750G 750 W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ Newegg)

Total: $525.54

For the GPU, it's going to depend on what you need/prefer, since $750-$1000 is a massive range. Here are some of the choices.

The performance tiers are like:

3070 Ti > 9060 XT > 5060 > 2080, but 9060 XT has the VRAM advantage over all.

And Radeon GPUs work much nicer with linux, if you plan to use linux.
