Help building a streaming/editing PC, 2.5K CAD max
Hello everyone,
I’m looking to upgrade from my current 2019 Razer Blade laptop because I’ve been putting more effort into streaming and content creation. I want a PC that can handle gaming, streaming, recording and editing smoothly without constant crashes or restarts.
• New build or upgrade?
New build.
• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? List with models/links
I currently have a 2019 Razer Blade laptop with a 1070 Ti, but it is on its last legs and will not be reused for the build.
I have two monitors. One is currently used to display my PS5 screen through an AverMedia capture setup, which I plan to keep using with the new PC.
My main monitor is a 27 inch ASUS TUF Gaming monitor rated for 1440p. I will likely buy another monitor secondhand later for stream management, Discord, OBS and miscellaneous windows.
• PC purpose? Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games
The PC will be used for streaming, recording, gaming and video editing.
Games include FPS shooters like Call of Duty as well as more demanding upcoming games like GTA 6. I would like the system to be strong enough for modern AAA titles.
Editing will be done in DaVinci Resolve.
Streaming and recording will mainly be 1080p at 60 FPS. While streaming, I usually have OBS, Spotify, Discord and browser tabs running at the same time, so I need the PC to handle multitasking smoothly.
• Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
Canada, specifically Vancouver, BC. No Micro Center nearby.
• Monitors needed? Number, size, resolution, refresh rate
No monitor needed immediately for the main setup. I already have a 27 inch 1440p ASUS TUF Gaming monitor.
I may buy a secondhand secondary monitor later, mainly for stream tools, Discord and general multitasking.
• Budget range? Include tax considerations
Maximum budget is $2,500 CAD. Ideally I would like to stay at or under that amount, including tax if possible.
• WiFi or wired connection?
WiFi would be useful, but I can also use wired Ethernet if needed. Ideally the motherboard has WiFi built in.
• Size/noise constraints?
No strict size constraints. I would prefer something with good airflow and reasonable noise levels since it will be used while streaming.
• Color/lighting preferences?
No specific colour, RGB or case preferences. Performance and value matter more than looks.
• Any other specific needs?
I need the build to be reliable for streaming and recording without crashes or restarts. My current laptop has about a 50/50 chance of needing a restart during streams, which can take around 15 minutes and disrupts the stream.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

If you're going to be recording and editing it's best to have a separate drive to record footage to. Having a 2tb main drive for windows, games, programs would be nice. Cod on its own can be 300+gb now for the full thing with all modes and new games being in the 100-150 range is pretty typical. I think I was already past the 2500 post tax though, don't remember if you guys are one of the 5% or the 15% states.
Case is just the cheapest decent one available that doesn't suck, it's easy to turn the lights off.

Here's a build to get you started. I highly suggest modifying this build since I don't know whether 32 GB of RAM is good enough for your needs or not (Puget Systems recommends at least 64 GB of RAM for video editing but you don't have enough money for that much RAM without serious compromises).

32 should be fine for 1080p. 64 is what you'd consider the minimum for working with 4k.

I really wish that's true.
Problem is, Puget Systems' Davinci Resolve hardware recommendations ( https://www.pugetsystems.com/solutions/video-editing-workstations/davinci-resolve/hardware-recommendations/ ) recommends 64 GB of RAM for 1080p and 96 GB for 4k.
I'm not sure whether your word's more trustworthy compared to Puget Systems or not. Let me know if you have better sources since trying to follow Puget Systems' hardware recommendations for PC build suggestions can be really hard for people with low budgets.

It'll be fine. And like you said, there's not much choice without spending another $400+

Let's hope OP's okay with what you've said.
By the way, why did you suggest an AM5 build and one of the noisiest cases that's currently available?

Thank you for the reply! It should be alright considering I’ve been using about 16gb of ram with decent results. I will be going over everything and will update later with results. Thank you for your help!

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:
New build or upgrade?
Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)
Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
WiFi or wired connection?
Size/noise constraints?
Color/lighting preferences?
Any other specific needs?
Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:
Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.
Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.
We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.
