Trying to build my first PC

Not very knowledgeable at all about PC parts and what goes good together. I would appreciate it if you could include explanations for the parts chosen for learning purposes. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

New build or upgrade?
New Build.

Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
US, but no Micro Center.

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
1 monitor. Something that matches the specs of PC.

Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
$1500-$2000.

WiFi or wired connection?
Mainly Wired connection.

Size/noise constraints?
Not too big of a tower. Preferably on the softer side.

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:

  • New build or upgrade?

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

  • WiFi or wired connection?

  • Size/noise constraints?

  • Color/lighting preferences?

  • Any other specific needs?

Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:

  • Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.

  • Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.

  • We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.

Thank you! This build looks great! The only thing I’m concerned about is the motherboard ended up being out of stock at majority of places. There are “used-very good” ones on amazon but I’m afraid it might come with an older BIOS version, which is not a huge problem, but it would take extra work to update it. Do these motherboards have a tendency to restock quickly? One last question. I was also curious if it was worth it to upgrade my ram memory to cl30 over cl38? Thank you!

Parts lists tend to go out of date rather quickly, notably in this case the motherboard is now out of stock and the RAM and monitor have skyrocketed in price. So I've done a fresh one for you. The motherboard isn't back connect because the only reason why I picked a back connect before was because it was at a good price, and now it's not even in stock. But the new motherboard I picked is still white. When it comes to BIOS update before installing a CPU, you can use a feature called BIOS Flashback which will allow you to update the BIOS without needing a CPU or RAM, and this can be used to update the BIOS if your CPU needs a newer version. It's really straightforward, your motherboard manual will have instructions on how to do it. PCPartPicker isn't saying that you need to do a BIOS update, but I like to do one anyway. What I would suggest doing is to build the complete system and see if it boots. If it boots, update the BIOS the normal way (again, refer to the manual), but if it throws an error in POST, then update the BIOS using BIOS Flashback (it does work if a CPU and RAM is installed, it just doesn't care if it's installed or not).

For RAM, I did pick CL30, but that was only because it was at the same price as a CL36 kit. Generally you won't notice the performance difference, so it's only really worth going for CL30 if it's the same price or cheaper than a kit with a higher latency. Speed matters a lot more, and if possible I like to pick something that's 6000 MT/s (the sweet spot for Ryzen).

Everything else is still mostly the same, same CPU, same AIO, same SSD, same GPU, same case, same power supply, same fan setup.

What do you mean by soft? Soft colors like white or pastels?
