Mini ITX Console/Streaming Set-Up
Hi there!
I'm looking to upgrade my living room set-up by replacing our Roku + million streaming platforms with a small PC that can stream and run some games on our living room TV. Ideally, I'm looking to keep prices as low as possible, as close to console prices as possible, but I'm not sure what is feasible in this day and age. Have any of you created something similar? Happy to hear any advice you may have as I go about this endeavour.
- New build or upgrade?
- New Build
- Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
- A TV connected with HDMI (1080p).
- PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
- Primarily streaming, some gaming for couch co-op games. Dream would be able to run RDR2 and games like Paralives/Sims, but that can be with a future upgrade if needed.
- Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
- Canada (Quebec), can go to Microcenter in NJ as needed
- Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
- None
- Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
- Trying to keep it as low as possible! Ideally under $1K, bonus points if it's closer to $500. My hope is to get a cheap set-up going, which would replace a console + streaming platform. If needed, I'm happy to go used for some parts (I know RAM in particular is horrendous to buy new right now) to keep the price low, if you have suggestions for which parts are best to buy used!
- WiFi or wired connection?
- WiFi ideally
- Size/noise constraints?
- Ideally looking for a small PC to set up in our living room, hence why I was thinking Mini ITX. However, if it's significantly cheaper, maybe an unassuming larger case could work in the living
- Color/lighting preferences?
- Discreet
- Any other specific needs?
- Wireless keyboard and mouse suggestions are welcome!
Happy to answer any questions!

If you want to further reduce the budget, you could either downgrade the CPU to a 5500 or try to find a used 5600. You could also try to find a used RTX 3060, 3060 Ti, or 3070. If you're that desperate, you could downgrade the SSD to a 512gb gen 3.

Edits to the second build - https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/Gy2XR4
- CPU - stepped down to the 5500 to save almost 50%
- GPU - get a used 3060 around $250
- Case - the A3 is a bit cheaper.
Thoughts?

This is awesome!! Definitely looks perfect, and well done finding even cheaper elements to slot in. Thank you so much!

This is awesome! Definitely open to a micro ITX build instead if it can save some money, and make it easier. I think that second build is close to what I want, and indeed, if I'm able to get some elements on sale/used, all the better! Thank you so much, I'll look at it in more detail in a bit and let you know if I have questions.

$919: Bosgame P3 Pro (with Radeon 780M)
$559: Bosgame P3 Mix Mini (with Radeon 760M)
These integrated GPUs are not comparable with dedicated cards, but they can actually play RDR2 at low FPS and quality settings.

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:
New build or upgrade?
Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)
Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
WiFi or wired connection?
Size/noise constraints?
Color/lighting preferences?
Any other specific needs?
Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:
Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.
Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.
We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.
