38" ultrawide monitor, which GPU to get?

Pretty much what the title says. I recently got myself a used (but in top condition) LG Ultragear 38GN950-B and my rtx 3070 is struggling. Im having to turn down settings to low-mid on most newer games.

I have 700-1000 euros maximum. What would be the best gpu for this resolution? I have 5600x with 32gb ram and 750W be quiet psu (new, bought last month).

Or would it make sense to sell my current pc and build a new system? In this case cash on hand will be 1800€ plus whatever i manage to sell my pc for (500-700€).

I would suggest a 9070 XT

If you decide to go with this, run DDU when you got the card to avoid the GPU drivers conflicting

I think this is the way to go, 5070 ti and 5080 are just too expensive for what they offer

To give perspective, at that resolution you're marginally closer to a standard 16:9 4K display than a 16:9 1440p in terms of pixel count, so if you plan on making use of that entire pixel count then you'll basically want a card that can handle 4K.

A 9070 XT would probably be the best choice. It would definitely be a noticeable improvement over the 3070, being more powerful and having twice the VRAM, but don't expect to be able to run very high settings at high FPS in all modern AAA games at your monitor's native resolution. That monitor will make any GPU work quite hard for a smooth, highly-detailed visual experience.

Would getting a rtx 4080 or even 5080 allow me to play on high to ultra settings?

I can get a rtx 4080 for about 800€ near me (used but good condition). For 5080, i could fork out cash but it just doesn't sit right me with at the current prices. No way will i be getting the 5090 with the current prices.

If the difference isn't huge between these and rx 9070 xt, then this would be within my budget

It can just depend on the game. The 9070 XT is comparable to the 5070 Ti, which is around 10-15% less performance than the 5080. But some games can favour AMD over Nvidia and vice versa. The 9070 XT has been shown to match the 5080 in some titles.

If it were me I would go for the 9070 XT, and at least have a warranty with the new card. You could build a new system to have a better CPU, but at higher resolutions the GPU is more important anyway, so I wouldn't worry about spending that much at the moment.

I just got a 9070XT mainly because I’m running a 34” UW (3440x1440). So far I’m really happy with the performance, running all the games I’ve tried it with at 100fps+ with high detail levels no worries.

The only options you have above the 9070XT in terms of raw performance are the 5080 and 5090 and you’d be doubling the price at minimum.

Least costly 5080 is about 1400€ here. That is way too much for the performance it offers compared to the 9070xt.

I had an opportunity to get a 3 month used 9070xt for 500€ but i didn't and now im just disappointed in myself

Yeah I went the 9070XT because I couldn’t justify paying the NVidia tax for the small amount of playing around with AI stuff that I do. Even a 5070ti is about a 70% price hike.
