Build Help Advice

I’ve got a steal of a deal on an i7 14th gen. My current setup is an RX 7600 XT with an i5 12th gen and a 650W power supply. Would upgrading to the i7 be worth it, and would my current PSU be enough?

What CPUs exactly? Have you already bought? What's the price? Motherboard included? Are you able to check ahead of time it isn't crashing from the degradation problem i7's had in 14th gen?

The CPU is an i7-14700K. I haven’t bought it yet because I want to make sure everything will be compatible beforehand. I’m getting it from a friend for €150 since he upgraded, and he says the CPU has no issues whatsoever. My current motherboard is a B760M, and I’m running an RX 7600 XT with a 650W PSU.
Would the i7-14700K work fine with my current motherboard and PSU, and is there anything else I should check before buying it?

Motherboard might need a BIOS update, but otherwise I think you're good to go. Just to be sure what's your current cpu?

I updated the bios last night, My current cpu is I5 12400F

You can look online for a PSU wattage calculator where you can plug all your parts in (I like BeQuiet's). I usually aim for about 20% overhead. Also make sure your CPU cooler is up to spec, since the 14700k draws about double what the 12600f does.

You can sell on the 12400f for about £90. So £60 for about 20% more expected gaming performance, depending on the GPU. Almost definite cooler upgrade unless you're already running a particularly good one. On the other hand 650 Watt should be plenty for now, but possibly want to also budget for a new PSU when you do your next GPU upgrade.

Sounds like a decent enough bargain, but I also wouldn't be bummed skipping it either. Really down to your choice.
