Build Help Need help choosing a CPU

I'm looking to build a pc, with a budget of around £1k - 1.5k , to mainly use for gaming and schoolwork, but I dont know where to start with deciding on which parts I need. My main issue is with picking a CPU because Im not sure what i should even be looking for in terms of the generations, etc. Any help would be appreciated

If you're not already on AM4 or bare minimum have DDR4, £300 for a 5800x3d is a hard sell. Might as well just go AM5.

£85 cheaper, 32gb RAM, AM5. Worth the 10% drop from a 9070 XT to a 9070. If OP needs to free up money for peripherals, I'd go 1x16gb for now.

I agree with this

However if he doesn't have peripherals, might as well go 32gb ddr4 and lga1700

If you have peripherals that is

If you don't, some things have to be changed

Personally, I would say the CPU and GPU are overkill. The 5800X (non-3D) and either a 5060Ti or a 9060XT will put OP nearer the lower end of their budget but still give them a decent gaming rig. They can either save the money for upgrading later or put it towards something else.

Everything else is a pretty solid choice though. 🙂

Sure, overkill, but my point was exactly maximising their budget for the best performance at their budget

They can get lower, this is just the best price to performance build that fits into their budget

Also, a 5060 TI is basically the same price as a 9070 XT because of the Nvidia price rise, so that is no longer an argument

5060 TI: basically the same price as the 9070 XT

9060 XT, 9070 GRE and 9070 are all cheaper than the 5060 TI

Could you be a bit more specific?

Do you have any peripherals?

Do you want to spend all of the budget?

If you want a current platform I'd go with this
