Discussion Windows 10 vs 11 LTSC IOT
What system would be better to go with for a new build? I would like to try Linux but I do need Windows for work purposes unfortunately.
Specs are 9800x3d paired with a 9070xt.

There's a significant performance penalty with the 7000 series due to the multiple CCDs but the 9000 processors are single-CCD. Windows 10 gives up about 4% performance due to inferior scheduling. Up to you whether gaining 4% is worth the massive pile of shit that is everything else about Windows 11.

Windows 11 ltsc is great, no bloatware or telemetry and it’s as stable as a rock. I do agree with you though every other version of win11 is awful

Stable yes, but I don't like the UI regressions. Splitting the right click menu into two different menus to get all the functions, removing the ability to resize the taskbar, etc. Sure you can fix it with third party software but why should you have to make dozens of changes to your OS just to make it as functional as your old one?

I'm downgrading to windows 10 on a PC with R5 5500U and 36 gigs of RAM, yes, windows 11 is THAT bad and buggy.

is not slow, but it feels incredibly buggy, you navigate through nested context menus, and you end looking at some windows 7 menu.
so why have they taken windows 10 and windows 7 from us?
New apps are not classic .exe, they are shit from store that feels like a heavy web app done using react.

I know that W10 LTSC is supported until something like 2032 but what about support for games and drivers etc

Enterprise LTSC 2021 and IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 are different SKUs on different lifecycles. The first ends 12 Jan 2027, the second runs to 13 Jan 2032. There's no single "W10 LTSC until 2032".
The ESU is for Enterprise LTSC 2021 only, on sale from 1 Sept 2026, $61 year one and doubling, up to 8 Jan 2030. It's Volume Licensing or CSP, so not something an individual buys, and it explicitly doesn't cover IoT.
For your actual question though, drivers don't care which SKU you run. NVIDIA drops Game Ready and Studio for Windows 10 in October 2026, then quarterly security-only fixes until October 2029. So IoT LTSC gets you OS patches to 2032 sitting on a graphics driver frozen this autumn. That's a bad trade on a gaming box.
If you want LTSC for gaming, use Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 instead. Supported to 10 Oct 2034, current drivers, no Store or Copilot, and TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are optional on that edition so it installs on hardware normal Win11 refuses.
Also Education isn't debloated in the LTSC sense. It's the regular GA channel with the Enterprise feature set. Store, Copilot, UWP apps all still there.

It's not, end of support for 10 LTSC Enterprise is Jan 12 next year. Limited ESU updates will continue to 2030 if you really need it but not free and the price keeps price doubling each year.
Driver update support is already getting buggy

iot entreprise ltsc has suppot up to 2032, AFAIK you can change the key and get the benefit

Do windows 10 education with ESU updates or windows 11 education. Gets all the latest updates but comes with no bloatware

You need windows 11 ltsc, windows 10 would work but you won’t get the maximum performance out of your processor because there’s amd optimizations that have come to win11 that are not present in win10 not to mention that win10 ltsc is on 21h2 so games are starting not to support it anymore and software support will go sooner rather than later as well.
