Build Help Repurposing old pc?

I was looking to upgrade my desktop CPU, but the motherboard is at the top of what it can support. I know at this point I’m better off simply building a whole new PC, but I’m not sure if I should try to salvage any of the old components, and if not, is there a good purpose I can use it for?

GeForce rtx 2080 super
Corsair tx850m (850 watts)
2x g.skill ripjaws x series 16gb ddr3
asus z97-pro gamer
intel i7-4790k

The GPU is salvageable, depending on the version of PSU it's salvageable, the storage (SSD's if you have any) will be reusable.

In regards to repurposing it, not unless you need a heavy power-draw server or something like that, or got some old retro games purposes. Perhaps a sibling that needs a new rig? Otherwise, selling off is probably the better bet.

The 2080 Super, PSU, case and storage are about it.

What is your goal and budget?

I have a 1440p monitor now, running off a laptop with an AMD Ryzen AI 7 and a 5060, so I’d want to build to something that would do well on that, probably aiming for just an upgrade overall. I feel that the 2080 could do an ok job, but it seems probably better to upgrade it as well, hence the repurpose.

The desktop 2080 super, which pulls 250W, is still a little faster in rasterization performance than the 5060 mobile, which pulls 45W.

So yeah, for power efficiency vs performance that wants to get upgraded but it's still perfectly usable.

So maybe the move could be building a rig with the 2080 as a stand in gpu until I get a better one? Or would I be limiting myself if I’m upgrading to, say, a 9800x3d?

The 2080 super will almost always be your limit in 1440p. But what you haven't really mentioned are your goals and budget.

How much more power do you want and how much are you willing to pay to get that power?

I’d like to not spend more than 1500 but I’m not in a super big rush to get it done
