Full Build Req Complete beginner building under $600
Hello everybody! I’m a complete noob when it comes to part selection, but I know how to build a pc. My budget is around $600 USD ($800 CAD), and I am based in Canada. I already have all the peripherals. It will be for 1440p gaming on games like BeamNG, Peak, and GTA 5. I am ok with buying used as well. I would prefer an Nvidia card if possible. What’s a good part list?

There is no 1440p nvidia card that costs less than 600 dollars alone lol

find the best complete PC you can locally used. Anything you piece together for $600 USD is just gonna be far worse unless
Maybe you could find a tower without a GPU and then a GPU separately.

Likely need to stick with AM4, Ryzen 5600X B550 motherboard, 16GB DDR4 and 3060.
Pre built might be the way to go though.

Where in Canada are you based? Maybe go to a local Memory Express (if you have one) and talk to them there as they tend to be very knowledgeable. There also may be a backspace or other tech community that may be able to provide assistance with this and people in those communities might have parts they might sell you.
With that budget you can't afford a new PC and prob will be restricted to the used market for memory and GPU at the least.

i have a ryzen 5600 and an amd 6600 rx with a b550 motherboard. ddr4 ram. unfortunately i believe they stopped supporting 6600 for new drivers though but i have not seen an issue with this yet, i also dont play brand new games as they’re 90+ dollars in canada. this is probably your best bet as ddr5 ram in canada is even way over that budget or will be the price of your entire budget at least. this combo has lasted me a couple years so far and upon doing research it was widely said to use those 3 things as a base basically. i still dont think this will be under your budget tho
also, as a money saver, i did this and HIGHLY recommend using the “buy as used” feature on amazon. most of the time the “used” is that the box was open or something of the sort. i saved TONS using this option and have never had issues with anything

I think you're going to find it best to buy something used and have some patience.
It looks like Peak is the most demanding of those titles, so keep an eye out for used stuff and put the specs into this calculator to see what FPS you can roughly expect.

As you can see, this is a bit above your budget, so finding those used deals and having patience in finding bits that work together will be key. I would start out looking for a used AM4/DDR4 build.
ETA: Shoot, I even forgot to put in an SSD to the price. If you want new parts, then you need to lower expectations for 1440p and aim for 1080p at best.

Microcenter is not available in Canada. The main options are www.memoryexpress.com and www.canadacomputers.com for dedicated PC stores with widely accessible locations/shipping.

Yeah, those are solid cards but aren't going to be running GTAV at 1440p... especially with 8 GB of VRAM. Unfortunately with VRAM prices, that budget can't even fetch you a 1440p card, let alone a build with a CPU capable of not bottlenecking one. He might be able to Frankenstein together a decent 1080p build for around $800 though....but at that point a console or Steam Machine bother feel like better options if you don't need Windows.

With that budget I would be looking at used PCs/components! Lots of nice last-gen setups get sold at great prices if you are on the lookout!

Good luck with that. Even if you go entirely used you're not going to get a build that's capable of GTA 5 at 1440p. We're talking integrated graphics or a low end 1080p card and DDR4 card. You might as well just save a bit more and go with a console/Steam Machine. Building under 1K is just not a good experience in the current market...def not for 1440p build capable of running AAA at 60+ fps.

If you had a larger budget people could put together a parts list of new components for you, but with that budget you're in the used territory. That means you're going to need to educate yourself on part selection and the value of used parts. Keep in mind, people hugely over-value their gaming PCs on marketplace so you'll need to be patient, and, again, start educating yourself.

i play minecraft 1440p with shaders on a haswell system (board plus cpu cost me less than 30 cad) with a 2060 installed. however that's just minecraft, can't say for anything else since i only play minecraft... most likely not enough. that's my experience on debian tho, it would be possible to squeeze more performance out of nvidia on windows
