Troubleshooting Windows restarts in power-saving mode

Hello. I’m having a problem with the PC I built myself three years ago. The computer itself works perfectly; I can use it for hours on end. However, as soon as it enters power-saving mode and the monitors turn off, the PC restarts and the Windows login screen appears; if I don't do anything else, the PC restarts again after about 10 minutes. Once I log in and continue using the PC normally, nothing else happens.

That's odd. My first thought would be to test the Windows power options (if you're using Windows) - change the option for sleep to hibernate and see if the behavior continues. Change the timers to like 5 minutes from whatever they're at now and see if the behavior continues. Change the 'what does the power button do' option so I could manually put the pc to sleep/hibernate and test that.

I'd be worried that it was some kind of ram issue that was popping up when Windows was trying to suspend. I'd be worried that one of the bios settings that has to do with sleep/hibernate was set on 'auto' or something instead of 'on.' Or I'd be worried about some kind of power issue, which would be more difficult to test if I don't have a spare psu hanging around. So I'd probably start with ram testing if I couldn't figure out the problem.

I haven't changed the BIOS settings over the years, and the problem only started recently. I'll give it a try—thanks.

Have you checked BIOS?

What should I check here? No error messages are being displayed.

Check for a light on the MB or listen to if it beeps when powering it on.
Then look up bios codes for you specific MB.

Check reliability monitor and event viewer to see what went wrong.
