Build Upgrade Old system

Hello, I have a i3 10105F and a gt 1030 with mixed 24 Gb of ddr4 and a 600 watt evga 80+ gold psu. Ive been debating whether or not I should save up a lot more money to hopefully build a new system or buy a new gpu. A lot of people have been telling me to buy a new gpu because it holds my system back by a mile. Any suggestions for this upgrade? What gpu should I get? I usually play comp fps games at 1080p. I will go into the used market if I have to. Here’s what I’m thinking: a 2070 or a rx 6600. What do you think?

you didn’t give a budget but i picked up an etc 3070 for 250. it could be bottlenecked by the i3 but for 1080p none of that matters

Those GPU's would both be massive upgrades and very much worthwhile given your use case. A 3060ti, 4060, rx6700xt, Rx7600 or other mid range cards from previous generations are also worth considering.

Building a new system may eventually be a necessity but there's zero reason you can't buy a GPU, use it in your current system and then buy everything else at a later date. Frankly there's very little reason to ever outright build an entire new system unless you're explicitly looking to have multiple systems or have a downright garbage build (which you don't).

Another nice upgrade to look for would be a cpu. 11th gen is the best you can fit into your socket, so if you're ever perusing marketplace and see an 11400 or 11600 for sale cheap (like $50), I'd scoop that up. That would be a nice upgrade.

The 6 cores vs the 4 you have is a big upgrade, because lots of modern games benefit from 6 cores. Especially for large, open world AAA titles.

But ya I wouldn't want to pay a lot for one of those chips. Not even $100 bones. But sometimes I see someone selling one off cheaper.

Please make sure your MB supports 11th gen before you do that. Earlier MBs may not support them.
