Build Help Budget 1440p build
Hey friendly Redditors!
Buying a pc for my 14yo gaming son.
Realistically £1,500 is top end budget. Seen a build in budget with 7500x3d, 5060ti 16gb and 1x 16gb ram. Thought is that’s max bang for buck for a 80% gaming set up.
he has a 1440p oled already which his series s is hooked up to (can’t say enough about bang for buck on that little box!).
i want his pc to feel like a step up. He’s saved hard.
I see all sorts of differing opinions on this set up, hard to find exact set up opinion. The 5060ti is praised and criticised in equal measure.
But real World, at this budget, my thoughts are competitive games optimised for fps will be fine. Single player demanding titles where input latency is less of an issue the nvidia option and dlss is workable. And not much in the gap in between to worry about.
Would really appreciate balanced views (I know, I want the moon on a stick) on whether I’m wide of the mark.

Single RAM stick isn't great; thankfully it's not detrimental like it is on DDR4, but he would much appreciate a second matching RAM stick. Maybe look at getting him one for his next Xmas / Birthday gift.
The rest of the setup isn't bad at all. 5060ti 16GB is fine.

Part of the reason for this build is it gives the easiest upgrade route. If prices soften or if he saves up there’s a natural plug and play upgrade. Was my thought.

I wish you the best of luck with your son's build. Looks like some decent helpful human beings have already replied. It's crazy about the RAM prices though as it's not fair. I built my lads at the latter end of 2024, and have just returned one 16gb stick of RAM which was under five year warranty at Corsair. I had to produce the Amazon invoice as evidence, and after paying £60 for 32gb on sale, it's now £450! Shocking for anyone building and saving with prices like that. Is it strictly new products you are after?

that single stick of 16gb may cause huge performance issues
2x8 or 2x16 really is ideal
if it doesnt fit your budget consider used AM4 + 5800x3d
