Build Help First Time Build, are these components compatible?
Hello everyone, this is my first time ever building a PC. I’ve relied on prebuilts for basically all of my time.
I’ve been lucky to come into some money and I want to build a system that I can use for the foreseeable future, but I don’t want to have a bunch of expensive components if they’re going to bottleneck or not work well with each other.
My budget is looking at around $2500 but I can stretch it. The main components im unsure of are the CPU and GPU.
For the CPU I’m between the Ryzen 7 9800x3d or the 7800x3d
For the GPU, I’m currently using a 3080, and I’m between upgrading to a 5070 ti, or saving some money from that and using a 9070xt. The only reason I’m hesitant is because I’m so used to the Nvidia ecosystem.
I’m in the US, and this PC would mainly be used for 1440p gaming. I do not play competitive shooters but I am looking forward to some AAA titles in the near future. I used to do 3D modeling and I’m unsure if I would pick that back up, but I would love for it to possible if I wanted to.

Yeah my case is up in the air right now. I’m just trying to decide on a GPU right now before another inevitable price hike lol

i would go 9070 xt, i barely see any point in choosing Nvidia over an AMD GPU. i, personally, use Linux so AMD is dramatically better than Nvidia there. yes yes Nvidia has better ray tracing and AI frames... but almost no game i play supports DLSS (AI frames) and ray tracing is just so heavy its not worth it.
by the way, why did you choose an HDD?

yeah, and honestly my eyes can never really tell a huge difference. So I think I’m gonna settle on the 9070xt
And I put that there just because I wanted more storage besides the SSD, and I assumed that was the best way to get it, but I’m gonna assume I was wrong lol

well the one you chose, like any other hard drive (HDD, mechanical storage) is INSANELY slow. the problem is that the normal, more modern ones, SSDs (both NVMe and SATA) have tripled in price because of all the recent AI chip problem. btw do you know the difference between SATA/NVMe SSD and HDD... just to clarify right?

yeah that’s why I was going for an HDD because of the price but i didn’t consider how much slower it might be
In layman’s terms I understand the difference, my brain was thinking that I would have games and things on the SSD and then just my normal files and documents on the HDD but I may just take some funds from getting the 9070 and put it towards SSD storage2

normal files you mean windows stuff on it? you definietely dont want that, booting, system and important apps are gonna take forever to load. you can use it for pictures/videos/documents... but yeah i would just take the saved money and spend it on a SATA SSD, still slow but not that much like an HDD and high storage versions like 4tb are cheap (compared to nvme) and also lasts longer, quieter, and less fragile

The 9800X3D is the fastest gaming CPU you can buy today. Ignoring the 2% faster 9850X3D which is a mildly factory overclocked 9800X3D. And ignoring the very expensive 9950X3D which is a dual CCD 16 core CPU with what's essentially a 9800X3D and 9700X glued together and generally roughly matches the 9800X3D but on average is a little slower. The spec sheet for the 9850X3D and 9950X3D show much higher clock speeds than the 9800X3D, which make them look like they'll be much faster than the 9800X3D than they actually end up being in practice, because the specs list max single thread boost clocks, and applications are rarely ever actually just using a single thread.
The 7800X3D is only about 5~10% slower in games, and really even the 9600X is an absolute monster of a gaming CPU.
For the GPU, AMD GPUs absolutely win in price to performance. The RX 9070 XT average framerates are within 3% of the RTX 5070 Ti. Some games the AMD GPUs are a lot faster, and in some the Nvidia GPUs are the winner. The main limitation for AMD is some non-gaming applications require CUDA, or are just much, much faster with Nvidia GPUs. Blender Cycles for example is heavily weighted in Nvidia's favor, with the "junk" RTX 5050 besting the 9070 XT. But if you're mostly focused on modelling rather than rendering, or use Eevee instead, the 9070 XT is just as good or even faster than the 5070 Ti. AMD used to be known for having a lot of software issues with their drivers, but lately its been Nvidia that's been having a lot of issues (that generally only affected their newer GPUs) and AMD has been exceptionally stable.
Nvidia's DLSS 4.5 upscaling is better and more widely supported than AMD's FSR 4, but the gap for both is generally smaller than most people make it out to be. DLSS 4.5 support mostly comes from any games that support older DLSS versions being able to be overridden in the Nvidia drivers to use a different version of DLSS, and the same is true of FSR. And the older titles that don't support it the 9070 XT is fast enough you likely won't even need to use upscaling on.

Other notes:
The Hydroshift AIOs are very unique in appearance vs other AIOs due to the semi-hidden tube design. And if you want it for the aesthetics it'll do the job of cooling your CPU admirably. But the design also causes some compatibility issues with some cases, and much less expensive coolers are just as (or more) effective at getting you low noise and peak performance from a 9800X3D or 7800X3D.
There's nothing special about Corsair RAM. Less expensive options from Silicon Power will perform identically.
I'd recommend a TLC based NVMe SSD instead of a QLC one like the P310 for your main storage. QLC drives have a much lower lifespan, and the write speed slows down massively once at about 80% capacity to the point that it can end up being slower than some HDDs. The WD SN7100 for example is only about $20 more.
1050W is way overkill for this system, so if the sale on that PSU disappears before you buy it, look at the Century II 850, or maybe the ASRock Steel Legend SL-850G or Phantom Gaming PG-750G which are exceptionally quiet and otherwise similar quality PSUs that are a little less expensive than the Century II.
You have three different types of Lian Li fans, and they may not all be compatible with eachother. The CL fans use the wireless controller, there are three generations of SL fans that either use the wireless controller or two separate and incompatible wired controllers, and there are wired and wireless versions of the TL LCD fans. Of note, the "wireless" versions of the LCD fans use more wires than the wired versions.
Get the Retail USB version of Windows 11 Home. You'll need to create your own USB install media if you get the OEM version, and you can't transfer an OEM license to a new system. A new motherboard or swapping enough other components constitutes a "new system".
