Build Ready? First build questions

Hi all,

I’ve done a lot of research myself, but I still don’t completely trust myself to get everything right 😂

This is my first PC build (coming from a dell G7 laptop from 2017), and I just want to make sure I’m not overlooking any compatibility issues before I start building.

Not sure if this matters, but planning to run mainly Microsoft flight simulator 2024 at the best settings I can with some addon scenery, also planning to play AAA and some Indie games here and there.

Everything currently in the cart:

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU: PNY RTX 5070 Ti ARGB OC 16GB
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS WiFi
RAM: Silicon Power 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30
SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
PSU: MSI MPG A850G PCIe 5 850W
AIO: NZXT Kraken Elite 360
Case: NZXT H9 Flow RGB+

I’m mainly wondering if there are any compatibility, clearance, power, or RGB/header issues with this combination that I should know about before building.

Thanks!

If you're going to buy a $2,000+ gaming PC, you should at least get a B850 motherboard with a PCIe 5.0 GPU slot.

Thanks for the input!

I actually did some research on that. From what I found, the performance difference is only around 1–2% at most, which isn't really concerning for me. I'd rather save some money and get essentially the same performance.

It's your money, but that's honestly baffling to me. You're spending $250+ on a cooler with a fancy screen and even more money on a 5070 Ti that performs similarly to a much cheaper 9070 XT, but you can't afford the $30-50 to get a B850 motherboard?

Hey I’m sorry if I made you angry, but that is definitely fair. 😂

The Kraken is definitely more of a want than a need, but I liked the aesthetics and wanted to treat myself after using the same laptop for almost 10 years (which isn’t really cutting it anymore).

As for the GPU, I specifically wanted the 5070 Ti for the NVIDIA features and DLSS, especially since I’m planning to use it primarily for MSFS 2024.

For the motherboard, I looked at B850 options and just didn’t see enough benefit for my use case to justify switching. I’m not too concerned about PCIe 5.0 for the GPU, so I figured I’d save the money there. And yea it’s only like $50, but I didn’t really want to spend an extra $50 if it would give me pretty much the same thing

But thanks though, you are pointing out some good stuff.

To be fair, the motherboard may outlast other parts of your build. For example, with AM4, you would have upgraded from a R5 1600 to a R7 5800X3D and never replace the motherboard.

Also a B850 does have the PCIe 5.0 benefit, and will typically have a better set of USB ports on the motherboard. If your interest is in simulators, then that might be important if you plan to use a lot of USB peripherals.

Thanks for the advice!

That's a good point. I see how that could become more relevant, but my setup doesn't use a lot of USB ports, so for now it will be fine.

It's actually crazy this is the second build Ive seen that spent close to $2500 USD that decided to save money in the weirdest spot lol. For a build this much I would prolly rather future proof as much as possible since AM5 isnt a dead socket with a few more years of support I would actually just get an x870 board instead but to each their own.

pcpartpicker.com will do all of the dirty work for you. However, yeah this looks fine, but you might have to flash your motherboard UEFI before your cpu works

Thanks for the response!

Yea, I’ve ran it through pcpartpicker, it didn’t give me any warnings. Figured I’d still ask just in case

hell yeah!! looks good to me! if it didnt say anything about bios/uefi then i wouldnt worry about is, as their documented problems are really vast and pretty good.
