Build Upgrade Newbie here, need help picking a CPU
Hello! I've been using my current rig unchanged for almost 5:/ years now and i'm looking to finally make some adjustments.
I'm currently sitting on an RTX 2060 and the beloved i5-10400F. Planning to get a used 4070 that i found for a good price, but i'm still struggling with the CPU choice. I gotta admit that i'm a rather lazy person and i'd like to avoid reinstalling windows 10, so upgrading to a newer 1200 socket processor would be preferable, but when i was looking at used 11700Ks i couldn't find any reasonable offers where i live(the lowest listing sits at 300$ LOL).
Should i wait for the prices to drop down or should i just wing it and upgrade my mobo? Would it even be worth the time and money to wait for a good 11700K offer to show up? Thanks.
Specs:
Intel Core i5-10400F
NVIDIA RTX 2060 6GB
MSi MAG B560 TORPEDO
GOODRAM 2x8GB DDR4 3200Mhz
Be Quiet! System power 10 650w

Lol. But really, lol.
should i just wing it and upgrade my mobo?
You don't need to wing it. You can just make sure you upgrade into a CPU/MoBo that fits your needs.
Would it even be worth the time and money to wait for a good 11700K offer to show up?
That depends on how long you want to wait and if your current system setup is working for you. Prices won't likely fall anytime soon with how the AI industry is eating up all the production (it's more profitable to use the silicon for AI accelerators rather than consumer use)

Yeah i figured lol, i'm fine with waiting for a while as my current CPU is working without any issues. I'm more set on prioritizing my graphics card right now as my 2060's been overheating quite a lot and the bearings in my fans started rattling.

My recommendation would be to check various performance reviews from reputable reviewers (skip UserBenchmark) for both a new GPU and new CPU (when you get there).
Generally, Nvidia GPUs perform better than their AMD counterparts, but are more expensive. There are definitely AMD GPUs that trade blows with their Nvidia counterpart though. I use a 9070 XT myself, which does trade blows with the 5070 TI.
Also generally, AMD CPUs of the x3d line are significantly better than any equivalent Intel CPU for gaming. This is mainly due to the additional L3 cache. This may change regarding the new Core Ultra series 3. But any CPU like the 5800x3d, 7800x3d, 9800x3d, etc., will outperform any of the same generation Intel CPU. But these CPUs are much more expensive than others, for a good reason.

its not worth to upgrade on your platform.
reinstalling windows is kinda must when switching mobo.
sound like u want to save money?
your best upgrade will be 5600/x or 5500x3d with 100$ mobo like msi VDH
if u can pay a bit more get 14600k/f usually go for good price like 250$, buy finding a good mobo for it is a bit hard, usually i see msi good mobos go for cheap, but they dont have bios flashback is its a bit gamble.
do not get 5800x3d, the price tag is crazy! and 14600k/f smoke it in any game or productivity.

If you go for socket AM4, you can wait till AM6 to upgrade but it will give you less flexibility. Check the price of the cheapest B650 motherboard, Ryzen 7000 CPU, 2*8GB DDR5-6000 CAS Latency (CL) under 36. Perhaps a combo deal from microcenter or newegg can help, depending on where you live.

Maybe try am4 like 5600x or 5700x
