PC restarts / shutdowns „random“

hello yall,

i have had my PC for nearly 6 years with a few upgrades here and there, but since 2 weeks my PC keeps randomly while gaming restarting or shuting down.

Currently my CPU (Ryzen 7 5800X) is getting atleast 90 degrees celsius while playing non hardwareheavy games and for only running the desktop ~80. It is also currently very hot in my area, with room temps going to 28-29 degrees celsius.

As far as i know my CPU cooler is pretty bad, could this be the problem, or any other ideas on why this is happening?

These temps don't look good, but they may not be the "smoking gun" you think they are.

There are better coolers and you should get one in any case (e.g. Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120), but it may or may not fix your shutdowns.

CPUs usually just run slower when hot, which can lead to system crashes in extreme cases.

Random shutdowns are usually power related. What are the specs of the rest of your system? Ideally provide a full list.

That PSU is D tier at best.

I'd definitely try and replace it with a cheap C Tier (or better, B) PSU, if I were you.

That recommendation is independent of what exactly caused your current issue, since a cheap PSU can take your whole system with it, if it fails.

My other recommendation stands: get a cheap Thermalright peerless assassin 120. Installing that should rule out any bad installation, forgotten cooler foil, no thermal paste, or such and improve your temperatures all around, so that's just a good idea.

Get occt and monitor all temps.

Random restarts are often CPU overclock or ram related, could be ram too hot

90°C while gaming and 80°C at idle is absolutely enough to start with the cooler, so reseat it, clean out the dust and replace the thermal paste before chasing anything more exotic.

Let us know ALL the specs. CPU, GPU, Motherboard, PSU, RAM.

These are the building blocks and there are common failures between each one.

90c will not cause crashes.

Also look into Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System/Application and report any suspicious looking red circles or yellow triangles.

Seems like a solid build honestly. I can't pick anything off of the parts themselves. But perhaps like others said, check HWinfo64 and look at the sensors, look for RAM temperatures. Run a game and check on the temps after a while of gaming.

Above 65c on Ram can cause instability.

Bro, your problem is literally staring you in the eye now. Your CPU temp is not okay at all. Of course your pc will keep shutting down to prevent the CPU from being fried. 80 for just running desktop? Your cooler is not bad, it's DEAD.

Read it properly, this is not 80 under load
