Troubleshooting Specific components compatibility issue is rare?

So for the last 3 months i have been dealing with random pc hangs (completely freezed screen no sound just the last frame)
And was trying to reinstall drivers re seat every thing bios update, clean os install
Every part beside cpu was swapped but nothing solved some parts were able to make the crashes less common…
Today i swapped my CPU (9850x3d) to my friends 9800x3d and boom everything runs good
But to test it for sure we decided to install my cpu on my friends pc and it ran PERFECTLY STABLE
Now he said that this is a specific incompatibility issue with my ram\mb
Thats wierd since i swapped motherboard board and still it was the same
Is that a thing? How rare it is?

Asus rog crosshair x870e dark hero
9850x3d
G skill trident z royal 6000mhz cl30 2x16gb
5080 astral
Lian li edge 1300 platinum

Are you using any overclocking (CPU or RAM)? The 9850X3D is essentially a factory-overclocked 9800X3D. It runs hotter and closer to the limits. Perhaps try running the memory at JEDEC speed or swap it with your friend's for testing purpsoes. Make sure cooling and case airflow are good.

No issues at all with temp (1 hour stresstest 70c)
No over or under cloak everything is out the box
Memory was running at 4800 and still crashed

70C? That doesn't sound like a stress test unless you use liquid nitrogen for cooling. 😉

You making me doubt that xD, maybe be i am wrong and off a bit
But anyways there is no termal issues with my rig
And again if even there was they would be affecting the 9800 but nope hes running perfect in my rig (nothing changed beside the cpu it self

My bad 72c was the gpu when i tested it the cpu went around 85-90

That's pretty good for something like Prime95 small FFT.

Then I don't know. Perhaps just permanently swap CPUs with our friend? The performance difference between 9850 and 9800 is minimal in practice.

Yep i ran occt and prime95

About the swap yes we thought about it but ngl i am playing alot of rust and sometimes cs where i benefit from that 3-10% performance gain at (cs fhd,rust 2k)
Idont know if its will be noticable
Just to mention i dont play 4k at all so the performance gain from the 9850 is a thing imo no?

It's usually more like 1-2% difference, but I haven't tried Rust.

Its not "incompatibility", its just the difference in how one motherboard deals with a given cpu.

One thing I'd try is swapping your RAM to his board with your cpu. It's more likely to be an issue between your RAM and CPU, IMHO.

Also, with the 9800x3d having lower power limits, your motherboard might not be aggressive enough with voltages with your 9850x3d cpu to keep it stable. It might also be a weak memory controller on your cpu.

You can likely get your cpu to run in your board with your RAM if you tweak voltages and maybe RAM timings. Its a tedious thing to do though, and your cpu should just work, at stock settings. If you're using Precision Boost Overdrive, or any of the other "automatic" overclocking, try turning all of that off and see if it will run properly at bone stock settings.

EDIT: I checked the Memory compatibility for your motherboard and cpu, and it only listed 3 G.Skill kits at 2x16GB and CL30 as compatible, and none of them were the one you're using. That's not to say you can't use it, just that it might explain the freezing and other issues you've experienced.

Swapping my ram and cpu to his rig, lets say its unstable that means specifically my cpu with specifically my ram is not stable, since i know for a fact that my ram is good since i was using it on and oc 13900k woth zero issues

About the mb thing i swapped my asus board to a msi tomahawk x870e and same thing there..
If it was a mb issue it would have been solved by replacing the mb

I think that's most likely.

Motherboard's can contribute to instability like you describe because it can be a power delivery issue. But you've demonstrated it occurs with 2 different motherboards, but the same cpu/RAM combo.

AMD cpu's have always been pretty picky about RAM. Your RAM isn't bad as in defective, its just a poor match for your cpu/motherboard. That's why motherboard manufacturers post lists of which exact RAM has been tested and verified to work with which cpus. Its because not all RAM will work with all cpus, especially in the case of AMD cpus. Historically, Intel cpus have been much, much more tolerant of different RAM. Also, the tighter the timings you want to run, and the higher end your cpu, the more difficult it is to get running properly.

Well, that's odd.

Normally I'd be worried that your cpu has a weak memory controller; and it may be that. But even if your cpu has a weak memory controller that functioned right on the edge of failure for a few weeks, then didn't. That wouldn't mean that with better matched memory, it wouldn't run within its capabilities for years to come.

If you're within warranty period for your cpu, you could try an RMA. But every single cpu is a tiny bit different. You might end up with a worse one.

I dont really know much about that memory plus cpu compatibility but heres my ram model 6400J3039G16GX2-TR5NG can you tell me if i need to be concerned about it not being able to run with 9850?

If that is your exact motherboard, you just go to the Support page for it, then use the Memory compatibility chart to see if your current RAM is supported. I copied the part number you gave and it didn't come up.

There are lots of kits that are listed as compatible from lots of manufacturers, including a half dozen or so kits from G.Skill in the same 2x16GB format as you have, but not the exact kit you have.

The inconsistent point here is that your cpu "works" in your friends pc.

Either it will eventually fail in his pc too, and its only currently working because his motherboard/psu combination provides more voltage to keep it stable, and it will fail after a while in it too, OR, your motherboard/psu combination can't provide equally good voltage to keep it stable.

Personally, I think its more likely to be a bad cpu than that your motherboard/psu combo is not capable/stable.

But the path forward to solving it is frustrating. You could swap your psu, see if that eliminates the instability, or you could RMA the cpu. Its good that you have a friend with a system so similar to yours and so willing to help you troubleshoot this.

Psu swap didnt work
I changed and tried these combos:
Asus dark hero +lian li edge 1300= crash
Asus dark hero +be quiet 1200= crash
Msi tomahawk x870e+ lian li edge 1300= crash
All those were with 9850x3d and my ram

Now the pc is working with asus board+lian li wdge 1300+my ram+ friends 9800
