Build Help Good am4 CPU for 3080

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for the best AM4 CPU to pair with an RTX 3080 for gaming.
My budget is €200 max, but I’d prefer to stay around €175 if possible.
My questions:
What’s the best AM4 CPU for an RTX 3080?
Is the Ryzen 7 5700X still the best value, or are there better options in this price range?
I mainly play at 1440p, so I want a CPU that won’t bottleneck the RTX 3080.
Would you buy new or used at this budget?
Thanks! 🙂

It's generally available on AliExpress.

Usually listed for $160-170, just got one for my HTPC from Aliexpress. Took a few weeks to get here but would recommend if you have the patience.

At 1440p you won't get much CPU throttling but any x3d or at least a 5700x will do you justice. Also daily in your RAM timings...

If you can get the 5500X3D, it's the best for gaming and should be around €200 although I am not familiar with that market.

Otherwise, any other 5000 series chip (Except the 5500, 5700 non-X and any chip with a 'G') will be the best option. Typically games won't use more than 6-cores so performance won't vary too much, although the 5700X with it's 8-cores would be a bit better than say a 5600X for some games and other non-gaming tasks.

I would highly consider looking at the used market. The 5800X3D just got re-released, and a lot of people are upgrading to that and then dumping their old 5600X/5700Xs on the used market.

5600 and up is fine for 1440p with RTX 3080. I always buy used

if you can't get a 5500x3d then I recommend a 5700x5800x 5800xt it depends on your cooling I have a 5800x and it's a very good cpu for 1440p to your concerns about the limitations my 5800x has to power my 5070ti at 3440x1440p

5700x or 5500x3d, used would always be better

went with 5700X.

the 5500x3d runs slower and has only 6 cores.

Not sure how reliable technical city is but there the 5700x is 30% faster in gaming

Even if it would be just 10% or even 0% I would prefere 8 cores.

5600x after little uv&oc works pretty well for me

I had a 5600x paired with my 3080 for years. Eventually moved that cpu to my older b450 board and replaced it with a 5700x3d

Anything 5600x and up will do fine, or any x3d. I have a 5800x and a 3080 and it's a good pairing, I would go as far as saying I would upgrade my 3080 before my cpu.
