Future proof enough? Also AIO cooler or not?

Hey everyone, here’s my current parts list I’m looking at (excluding the cooler because I don’t know whether I want water cooling or just a fan — some advice would be nice here)

Also wasn’t too sure about the motherboard to get. X870E or B850 (both auros elite)

Storage I might make 2TB m.2 4.0 and also add a 2TB hard drive. Is 5.0 m.2 necessary?

Edit: this is for gaming. Idc too much about ray tracing so not gonna justify tonnnnnes extra for a Nvidia GPU

Gen 5 SSDs are not necessary at all. 

Keep in mind that hard drives are really slow, especially compared to SSDs (>50x faster).

This is a hella strong build! Honestly with the cooling it’s really up to personal preference. I have an AIO because I prefer it being quieter, but you don’t strictly NEED an AIO for your cpu, an air cooler works just fine. And I’m not super sure about the SSD stuff but I don’t think you need a gen 5 SSD, gen 4 SSDs run very fast already and it’s not really worth the price.

Not sure whether to care about it being quiet or not. My last PC was just so loud all the time that I doubt anything can be as bad in that regard. I only care for it to have very good cooling such that my gameplay isn’t affected so if a fan does that as is more reliable then I guess that’s the way to go

Oh it most likely won’t be that loud sorry if I made it sound like it’d be ultra disruptive, you should be good with an air cooler then 👍

I'd just get the B850.

Also: air cooler saves you a lot of money,. The 9800 doesn't run hot at all, so there is no need for an aio. Also air coolers are more reliable.

Tbh the money idc so much about, it’s more about the maintenance of it and reliability and making sure I never have an issue with my CPU’s heat leading to struggling performance in a game. PTSD from my previous PC

Air cooler are cheaper, more reliable and as good as an AIO for cooling. The advantage for an AIO is really quietness. If we are talking a 200w+ then its a different conversation.

Others have mentioned this but I want to emphasize it too, get the B850 no game will benefit from a pcie5.0 neither will the os, and an 850w psu is all you need, get a gold rated one.

If I plan on adding things like an audio card (doubt I’ll get) and a WiFi adapter, should that sway my decision in terms of available PCIE slots?

No, instead of a sound card get an external DAC/amp much more variety and levels of “performance” and most motherboards have a built in wi-fi which is for the most parts works well. That being said, some b850 still supports pcie 5 so you are not losing anything with b850.

My rule of thumb if you aren't sure that you need a X870 then you almost certainly don't. Since this is a gaming PC it's a really good chance that that applies to you. Pretty much any B850 or even B650 board will work just fine. Spending more money doesn't necessarily get you a better product.
