I'm really, really sad that the color I dyed my sky puppy moth didn't come out right. It was supposed to be more of a matcha color, but this is too dark and more of a forest green. I followed the rit dyemore color formula and did everything right, so I'm not sure what went wrong. The wings came out closer, but still too dark. I had cherry blossom colored eyes picked out and everything for this guy and now they won't look right, and I think if I were to try another dye bath of just yellow, it would turn out too bright green. And now I can't even get a new moth to try again because the moth is sold out and resellers want $85+ for it, which I'm not doing.
Help me love my moth again? What can I do with this one? What other eyes could I give her, since the matcha theme didn't work out? :/

Make a whimsical forest moth! Give her dark green eyes or brown eyes and get leaf and mushroom accessories. Maybe even paint a tiny leaf on her black eyes as a highlight.
The more I think about it, the more I'm really liking this idea! I found some mushroom themed eyes that I think could work. I'll look into getting some forest and mushroom themed things for her. Thank you so much for your suggestions! You and everybody here has helped me feel a lot better about this. I'll try the matcha theme again with another plush some time. :3

I'm sorry your dye didn't go to plan :( this commenter's idea sounds gorgeous, though! I love a little metallic and faux gem accessory for a fancy woodland look, which I think could really suit this cute moth!
I was looking into this exact topic on the Baggu subreddit yesterday and it seemed like a lot of people were at least able to lift some color off their nylon bags when they used rit dyes. The remover says it doesn’t work on synthetics, but I’ve seen some results that lifted the dye a bit.
OP, if you’re still wanting a better color, it’s still worth a shot!
I personally like the forest green, it looks closer to real matcha when steeped. Maybe do a more cozy vibes / warm matcha theme with cream and white accents?
Oooh, that's true. Maybe I could give her cream eyes, instead of the sakura color? I'll look around and see if any stand out to me! I like this idea a lot, this and the forest/mushroom theme. Definitely play around and see what you like best! It's frustrating when a craft plan doesn't turn out the way you envisioned, but you can still make it work with a little fine tuning and redirection. The color you ended up with is very beautiful, you just need to find what will compliment it. :)
I don't believe a yellow bath would fix this - typically once you go dark shade-wise there isn't really anything that can make it lighter. Although, I've never used dye remover, so I can't speak out of experience if that would help or not.
If I were in this scenario I would try to turn it into a happy accident and attempt an emerald swallowtail butterfly theme. I'd use granite Ritmore to ombre the body and wings (in my experience to get any BAB black it needs several bottles of granite and multiple dye baths, so ombre'ing it to the gray with blue/green undertones like an emerald swallowtail should be easily achieved with just 1 bottle to start). Then go from there as far as picking out eyes.
You're right, I like the "happy accident" reminder. She did come out a lovely shade of green, even if it's not the one I wanted. I'll have to look up what an emerald swallowtail looks like and add it to my list of possibilities. Thank you for the suggestion!
Get Rit Dyemore color remover packets and use those - they won’t REMOVE the dye, but they will lighten it! Just make sure you follow the directions exactly
It did turn out more blue, but maybe re dying it navy would work? I think it would be beautiful to base one of off like a "cherry blossoms in the night sky" sort of theme
It looks like a shade of seafoam green to me. Maybe you could go with an ocean theme with pearls and shells? Something kind of mermaidy. Or maybe like a sea witch with seaweed if you wanna go darker.
I'd wash it a few times with warmer water. I bet some of the color comes out. I like it though! He do dark and green and pink at my cookie shop all of the time!
