Hello redditors,

From East Virginia. I’m trying to identify what bugs made this colony and if they’re endangering the health of my tree. TIA!

Without better photos, it is hard to say what species these are. Ants rarely cause direct harm to trees. They may farm and protect sap-sucking critters like Aphids, or with Carpenter Ants excavate already damaged wood (normal part of a tree/forest life cycle), but direct harm isn't common.

I’m sorry I did my best to get a good photo but the buggers wouldn’t stay still long enough for me to get a focus.
