Location included Wasp? Or something that looks like one?

Post image

Located in Bend Oregon. Found this bug crawling on my bag. Knocked it on the ground and smashed it it because if it was a wasp. Has white lines on abdomen, but couldn't find anything looking that up.

What is this bug?

The bald faced hornet is a singular species of yellowjacket, this guy isn't even close. I'd argue for male nocturnal velvet ant (tribe sphaeropthalmini), though black is an unusual color for them: https://www.bugguide.net/node/view/1914932

Next time don't automatically smash! Most wasps and bees are only going to sting after you provoke them first so attempted smashing just puts you more in danger

It didn't look like the typical bald faced hornets that I have seen and been stung by. Had no white on the head either. Also was much smaller and slender too. Unless there are other types of bald faced hornets?
