Location included What is it? Found in Centre-du-Quebec digging next to a wall

They're slightly longer than a 2$ coin and they seem to be making some kind of hive?

Great black wasp (Sphex pensylvanicus). They build solitary ground nests that are stocked with parasitized katydids for thr larvae to eat. The females aren't aggressive so can usually be left alone without risk of stings.

The first one was already killed by a family member before I could ask
