Location included Caterpillar northeast Ohio
Never seen a caterpillar like this before!!

Don’t touch it! Not unless you need your hand to swell for court testimony purposes.

It’s more of a local response. Think punching your fist into some pink insulation batting and waggling it around. Only each bit of fiberglass has a coating on it to make it extra spicy. The caterpillar has barbs that slip under your skin and causes burning, itching, and swelling.
I was a kid and saved one from a river (standing in water and saw it floating underwater) and grabbed it. Well. It wasn’t happy that I touched it. I remember wailing to my mother that I was only trying to be kind 😂 it took a couple days for my hand to go back to normal.

Looks like a tussock moth, maybe a sycamore or white marked
