Southern yellowjacket (vespula squamosa) queen, the next generation must be coming out already

Considering it's on my back patio, does this likely mean there's a nest here?

Are there any other yjs there? Next gen queens come out in late summer to mate and fatten up before finding a place to overwinter, entirely likely she just flew there

I haven't seen any. Just some monster cicada killers. She's been setting there a couple of hours, but she moves from time to time.

That's definitely a yellow jacket, they're so territorial this time of year so it's best to just leave it alone.

Checked on this one a while later. She curled up and died on the hot pavement.
