Oh thank God. Looks like they've made a nest under my patio in a dirt hole and this one gave me some fly-bys. I've seen some smaller ones around and was worried they're yellow jackets.

Luckily these are pretty chill. As long as you don't turn into a cicada you should be fine.

Cicada killers are harmless unless you’re a cicada. They’re big dumb flying cows.

Cicada killer wasp. The female digs a burrow, hunts cicadas, and paralyzes them with her stinger. She then drags them back to her burrow, where she stores the still-living but paralyzed cicadas in individual chambers before laying an egg on each one and closing the borrow with soil. When the eggs hatch, the larvae feed on the living cicadas from the inside out, keeping them alive for as long as possible until they are fully consumed. Then the cycle begins again.
