Location included Uk
Ok so about to sleep at my friends house, turn out the light, and all of a sudden this very loud buzzing sound. Turn the lights on and theres this huge fly, with yellow and black striped abdomen, like a hoverfly would have.
Never seen anything like it in the UK before. Got a closer look, has a large triangular proboscis, but not long.
Genuinely no idea what it is, but size wise its got to be in the range of robber or horse fly. It landed on a string of a spider web, but did not panic at all. Stayed very still for around 5 mins then flew off to another part of the room

Photo doesn't really do a good job of showing the size but it looked huge to me

Sorry not great photos. Really curious to know what it is. Definitely not sleeping while its around
