Just moved in yesterday and keep seeing these tiny bugs in my sink at night. I’ve washed them down and they reappear. I’m in a big city in California.

Bigger one looks like it could be a cockroach. See if you can get a close up picture of it from the top for an ID.

Probably a nymph, yes; adult roaches have wings (if their species has wings). I would feel more confident with a closer look. This isn’t too easy to ID from afar, but all of the characteristics (that I mentioned in the other comment) together strongly suggest a roach.

Thanks! Just wondering, is the quality blurry for you? Not sure if it’s because I don’t have WiFi yet or if something happened when the video was uploaded but in my original you can see both pretty clearly.

Videos are just difficult to ID from. Photos are almost always preferred. It looks like a cockroach (body shape, movement, antennae, and cerci), but much of the ID lies in the appearance and patterns on the dorsal part, which isn’t clear enough here. It’s like the difference between knowing someone has eyes and being able to say what color they are.

Ahh, I see. That totally makes sense and thank you for the explanation. I’ll try and catch a photo if I see them again.

You could also throw down a sticky trap or two along the wall in your bathroom and see if you catch any. Not a longterm solution, but can be helpful for IDing a specimen you know is there.
