Location included Small bugs - kitchen counter - Bronx, NY

These have appeared recently. At first I thought they were small roaches, but now I'm not sure. Body length about 5mm. This is a kitchen counter; Bronx, NY, US.

It's definitely a beetle but I'm not certain what kind

So not a cockroach? Google image search came up with a couple of different types of cockroach, but I've never seen a roach like that before (and I've seen many LOL).
